Question 4.6 with low compression? HELP

this is my first post to these message boards, but I need some help. I just purchased a 97 Black SC 4X4 from an individual. Before I even got it home I took it to a local dealership(Austin, TX) and wanted to have it fully examined by a Ford dealership. It is under an extended warranty up to 100K, and when they did some diagnostic test, I come to find there is zero compression in cylinders 3, 5, and 8!! Now they tell me they have to get authorization from the extended warranty people to tear into the engine and they may need to replace the engine. Has anyone had this problem or had it replaced? How long did this take? Its been 9 days and my truck hasn't even been in my driveway! Thanks for your help

With no compression in 3 cylinders it should have run like crap. I find it hard to believe that it wasn't noticably when you looked at the truck before you bought it.

Thumbs down

Well, when i drove the vehicle, she said it idled rough at stop signs. She said the timing needed to be adjusted, so I went along with it. At least it will be covered under warranty.

Sorry to hear about someone getting ripped off. There is no timing adjustment. That all done by your computer. Sounds like the previous owner tore it up and knew it.

Red face

They probably meant inadequate compression. If someone sold me this, they better not leave the house; EVER!!!

Question

Are you sure about this extended warranty? Is it transferrable from the previous owner? Or did you buy it?

Beware of "preexisting conditions."

Sorry to rain on your parade...

Thanks Guys. I look to all of you because I have read the millions of posts from your knowledge. I will keep everyone posted on how this turns out. The truck is immaculate and a woman driver who said she never used it more than a daily driver. I honestly think that she did not sell me this truck with intentions of ripping me off, but maybe i am naive. The warranty was transferrable and as far as the dealer knows, it is still her truck.

If the warranty is transferrable, then why does the dealer still think it is her truck?

Don't know if this applies, but I got a letter from Ford yesterday wanting me to buy their "ESP" extended warranty for my Y2K F150. Part of the "benefits" is that the plan can be transferred should I sell the vehicle. BUT, there is a $50 "transfer fee". Might check out your coverage for similar items.

Good luck.
