Angry Problems All Over!!

I've had so many problems with my 1999 Ford F-150 Lariat! First the leather seats in the front have begun to discolor and fade, then the doors are rusting, tailgate has rust on it, driverside window makes a clicking sound when used, on the roof on the truck the paint is bubbled and cracking, the paint on my supercab door is cracked in a spot, and I haven't even had the truck one full year!! What the hell will I do when the warranty runs out? Does anyone else has any of these problems or is it just me?? My dealership has been pretty good so far about taking care of things, but the piont is the truck is a '99 this shouldn't be happening with a new truck! I was wondering if these problems are just isolated too the '99 or what? Please somebody tell me I'm not alone.

The reason I posted this in the engine section is because most people go here a I figured I would get the best response. Oh Yeah, all most forgot, in a 1999 4.6L V8 Supercab what is the gear ratio--3.05 or 3.55?? Thanks!! I'LL ALWAYS LOVE ME A FORD!!!!

My early 97 has none of the problems you are having. And no door cracks either. And my Lariat leather is doing fine, even though I slide in and out, and clean spots off it with Go-Jo or Goop hand cleaner, no leather restorer or anything like that used at all. People tell me I'm abusing the leather, but mine's doing fine, and their's isn't! In 97, axle ratio was 3.55 as part of the Lariat package, probably because the actual tire diameter was larger than the other tires in XL, XLT trim lines. I think 3.55 works out well. Glad to hear you have a good dealer. They are rare, no matter what make.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Had a 97 F-150 4X4 Lariat, almost 32K on it when I turned it in on my Y2K. No problems at all, except the famous lug nut recall. A friend had a 97 F-250 LD about 36K when he got his Y2K SD, and the only problem he had was piston slap that he fixed with Slick 50!! Sounds like you got the less that 1% of the bad ones, sorry, it could be me!!

Sorry to hear about your problems. Havn't had all that much with my 99. Just the odd noise! Like the truck - runs nice and feels good. It is real good you have a good dealer and Ford has lots of money to spend fixin your truck.
I'm not happy with livin in GM country though. It's tough when your #1.

My truck hasn't been back for anything. I suggest that you stay on them and get everything fixed and documented before your warranty goes out.

You are not alone! My 1999 F150 Lariat SC 4x4 has many problems. The engine blow-up at 7800 miles. After a month in the shop, I got my truck back with a 2000 engine (some parts from the 1999 engine). The new engine had a rough idle, leaked power steering fluid, acquired an annoying whistle, the accelerator pedals vibrates, and the transmission has a slip/shutter when going from 1st to 2nd. The dealership resolved the rough idle problem, and also resolved the power steering leak by replace the steering gear assembly. All other problems still NOT resolved, as the dealership states "Could not duplicate customer concern". I have contacted Ford, fought with the dealership. Nothing seems to get resolved. I wanted to get these problems resolved, but two new problems began to exist. I have a clicking noise in the dash when the A/C is on. The click noise is heard, then another noise like a pump is running. This last for about ten seconds. The noise is gone for about 15 seconds, then the cycle repeats. The other problem is a notchy feel and vibration when turning the steering wheel left or right. It can also be heard. Very annoying. Took the truck in today for repair. I pick it up tomorrow, but apparently, the clicking noise is NORMAL, as the A/C diagnostics were OK, and the steering problem is the fact that the tires have not been rotated. At least, that is what the service rep told me via voicemail. I am not buying it for a minute. I was hoping that by giving the dealership only two problems at a time, that they would get resolved. Guess not. There are other minor problems (minor compared to the others), such as the passenger window "thumps" when it reaches the top, the driver window clicks on the way up. I have just about had it with this truck. I feel that it is only a matter of time before the other problems surface (i.e door cracks, etc). I definitely will not own this truck past the warranty (could not afford too). I have thought about trading for a 2000 model, but kindof feel that the problems are still there. I need a truck and hate to even consider the other manufacturers, but something has to be done. This is the first Ford product that I have owned, but based on this experience, it will probably be the last.

Racing -- is your truck white?? I have had none of your other problems with my Y2K, but have had to deal with a lot of small rust spots all over. They buff off with some work, but still frustrating. I even have some of the spots on the plastic trim, so I'm sure it's only surface rust.

Those small rusts spots on the side of your truck are from the brake pad dust any light colored vehicle will make them visible, especially White. If they were surface rust the would not rub off. The rust on the bottom of the doors is real and a problem. Looks like they didn't prime the bottoms of the doors!

I have a windshield shade to keep the sun from beating on the leather all day. Also have ventshields and stop the windows a couple of inches from going all the way up. Keeps it a little cooler and I don't have to slam the door. My drivers window sometimes makes the clicking sound, I use that one more. No problems with the paint. No crack, yet. As far as the engine, reading posts here would make a hypocondriac out of anyone but, it still sounds like new.
No leaks, no runs, no errors and no men left on base.

Here's a list of all my problems, past and current, on my '97. Past problems under warranty: replaced malfunctioning windshield wiper stalk twice, replaced manual 4x4 shifter for rattle (still rattles), replaced rusty rear bumper, bad 02 sensor, blown front shock. Replaced after warranty: broken front torsion bar. Currently in shop for: Bad EGO sensor and coolant hoses, Bad A/C hoses, looseness in front end, rear end diff squeak and leak. And, I have rust rust rust on all the body panel seams (lower inside of all doors and tailgate seam). Overall, not a very good experience with this truck. I have 115K on the truck now and it's 3 years old. And of course count me in for the mandatory rough idle and cracked door metal by the window. Still don't have piston slap though!
My dad's '98 is rusting out like mine as well. I'm sure just about all F150's will develope rust bubbles within 2 years on the places I mentioned.

Ford Racing:

Sorry to hear about your problems. I have a '00 Lariat 4X4, and have similar problems, although not as bad, with my paint job..(pitted all on the hood and tops of the front quarter panels). Looks like crap. I plan on taking it to the dealer before the paint warranty runs out in September. My front leather seats are completely for crap and look like they came out of a 1982 LTD or something. I plan on getting some WetOkele (sp?) seat covers anyways as the dealers replacement "leather" will just do the same thing again. I see you are from my local area (Ft. Lauderdale) ... where did you get the truck? I got mine at Mullinax ... (just wondering how the service folks are at your deaaler).
