Thumbs down rough idle

I reset my computer yesterday when I took my negative terminal off my battery to install a cd player. Now the engine will idle rough. Is this because I took the - terminal off the battery? If so, does anyone have any idea how long it takes the computer to relearn it's program? It's a factory chip, not a Superchip. If anyone can help me, please reply.

Sounds like your computer is in the relearn mode. It will take several starts.(cold, warms up, cold again before you restart).
Get some drive time in it and you should be fine in a couple of day'
s or less.

Thanks MKTRUCK for the info. I'll run it a day or two and see what happens.

WOLVERINE,
GIVE YOUR COMPUTER ABOUT A WEEK TO RELEARN YOUR DRIVING HABITS AND IT SHOULD SETTLE OUT.

That doesn't sound right........

I've disconnected the negative cable from both my '97 4.6 xlt and my 01 Lightning many times and never had to wait for the computer to 'relearn'--especially not 'idle' rpms. Mine have always started right up and idled smoothly. I know the ECU 'relearns' your driving 'habits' over time but not the idle settings.

I would look around and see if you didn't jar a vacuum line loose or an electrical connector--something else is wrong--I think.

COME TO FIND OUT, IT WAS JUST SOME BAD GAS I GOT AHOLD OF. I DON'T BELIEVE IT WAS THE COMPUTER IN THE "RELEARN MODE" MAKING IT IDLE ROUGH. AFTER I WENT TO THE PHILLIP'S 66 DOWNTOWN AND FILLED UP, IT IDLED SMOOTHER THAN A SINGER SEWING MACHINE. THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTIONS ANYWAY.

Glad it's solved. The dreaded crud gas thing I never even thought about. We've got the oxygenated gas here in CA now, and the mileage has gone down.

Happy New Year.
