Dynos Don't Lie
I hear you guys on the break in thing. I didn't "thrash" my engine, but I was also not afraid that a couple of full thottle runs would hurt my engine. Ever been to Georgetown to see the Vettes put together? As soon as they roll off the line, the are put on a dyno and ran pretty *******ing hard, up over 80 mph. What break-in period? I still don't think ANYTHING actually "breaks-in" except for the piston rings/cylinder wall interface.
Ok, I searched some for info on engine breakin. Try this link.. http://www.totalengineairflow.com/breakin.html
These guys do know their stuff, just ask around.

Hey guys, about the hot air. We have a remote temperature sensor that I used during the testing. The sensor is designed to take samples at the intake. I actually stuffed the sensor in the fender, and then under the K&N for the second test. If you notice the conditions of the test (see above), the intake temp was actually cooler on the day when I tested with the "open" air filter. So you can rule the "hot air theory" out during these dyno sessions. Also, our software corrects for altitude, temperature, and pressure. This makes testing more repeatable from location to location, and varying conditions. I do agree that while driving, a cooler, more dense air charge would be attained sucking from the fender.......no doubt. I just wanted to see where the restriction was on the factory intake. Next step, fab a 3.5" intake tube to replace the "plastic baffle" section. Oh yeah, I'll try to put some more break in miles on this pig before the next test!

The ford manual says nothing to the effect of their being a break in period for these motors as to not drive hard or fast. It says "There are no particular break-in rules for your vehicle. During the first 1000 miles vary speeds frequently."
My friend drove his 97 350 chevy hard from day one. 110,000+ miles and burns no oil, and runs hard and fast.
Mine saw 5000 rpm in both 1st and 2nd. Did you know you can do about 65 mph in 2nd before you shift to 3rd.
To each his own. I think top quality oil and proper oil changes is the one of the most important thing to making them last.
Ya 4200 rpms all the time isn't good, but on occasion isn't gonna hurt.
