Cool 4.6 best choice for my needs?

Ok, my search for my new used truck is in full swing. I need advice. The truck will spend much of its time on the interstate and some time pulling a boat (most likely less than 3500lbs). I'm looking for a '99 and '00 150 s/c, auto. 4.6, 3.55 LS, and hopefully the Sport package. I believe the 4.6 will be my best bet since fuel milage is a major concern. I don't believe the power of the 5.4 will be a necessity. I know more power is better, but I like the MPG numbers of teh 4.6 much better and it seems to have plenty power for what I need. Does anyone have any comments to help me confirm this? TIA.

hey ranger, or should i call you neighbor...LOL

i have the 4.6 and have been very happy with it. the mileage difference is minimal at best though. for what it sounds like you are planning the 4.6 should do just fine. i drove the 5.4 when i bought my truck and liked it, but not enough to pay for it. just my thoughts, good luck on your purchase. keep'em straight in smyrna, Rich.

4.6 vs. 5.4

Had a '98 s/c 4.6, longbed, auto, 3.55 LS. Towed two snowmachines in winter and two atv's in summer. No trouble with that setup. Now have '00 5.4 shortbed, mileage is about the same. If you plan on keeping the pickup for awhile you might go for the 5.4 as things can change and that extra torque might come in handy. BTW both are 4x4's.

I have a 2002 Screw with the 4.6.
I loaded it down (bedload 500lbs) and hit the highway @ 70 - 75 mph.
Acceleration & speed just fine for my needs.

I have a 4.6 been driving it a little over 2 years and it does just fine I haven't towed with it yet it has done fine on the highway going up mountain grades when I went through the Rockies last summer so you should have no problem with a 4.6.
