Changing to a new MAF meter really won't help anything. I'm not sure which motor you have, but my 2k 5.4 is utilizing an 80mm meter (stock). The meter body is composite, and the "sample tube" only projects half way into the bore. You used to be able to get gains by swapping out MAF on older Fords because they were usually smaller and more restrictive than the aftermarket pieces. That's not the case in our application, Ford has done a nice job on the new meters.

As far as your check engine light from the AirRaid kit, here are a few ideas. If that kit came with a K&N filter (oiled), the oil can sometimes contaminate the heated filament inside the MAF meter. This will throw the voltage out of spec because that filament is essentially reading air flow via a temp change. The filament is heated, and the air flowing by it makes it cooler. The contamination insulates the filament and sends a voltage that the computer isn't expecting........Check Engine light. What to do, spray some Windex on the filament and rub it VERY gently with a Q-tip. Someone could also chime in on which wire to stick on the MAF meter harness and what the voltage should be. (It's either pin C or D, and voltage should be between .7v and .9v). Find a buddy with a code scanner and be sure that the code was generated from "MAF voltage higher / lower than expected" before yo get too far.

Thumbs up

I also have a K&N fipk and before installing the filter I disconnected the battery but first I turned the lights on and then disconnected the battery cable, it stood there without battery all the time I used to install the fipk around 45 minutes I took my time with out any rush, about overoiling the filter, the only way it was overoiled is that you applied more oil to the filter before installing it and this can cause your check engine light to turn on, the filter comes oiled and to me it is not over oiled, besides the fipk I also installed the Granatelly Maf, it feels with a little more response when you apply the trottle, when I started the engine it was smooth, little hiss from the fipk but not annoying.

A friend of mine sprayed his wire with some carb cleaner and let it sit for awhile while. He did this on his F-250LD with 5.4 and his wifes Thunderbird where he did in fact over oil the K & N filter.

Check engine light went out and stayed out.

Caution: some carb cleaners are not compatible with fuel injection components. DynoDan is correct; clean w/windex and Q-tips or pipe cleaners.

Question mass air flow sensor

I have recently installed a airaid FIPK in my 2000, and i was wondering if it would be worth it to install a new mass air flow sensor? Also what is the best MAF sensor available?

The problem is that my service engine soon light will not go off(started when i installed the airaid) so i think it is due the the MAF sensor. i tried disconnecting my battery twice and both time it would stay off for a day or so then come back on. So what should i do?
