engine swap
I have a 97 f150 5.4L ext. cab truck. I have been reading the f150online forum and I have found lots of useful advice in my endeavor to build up my truck. I have added Gibson headers, flowmaster exhaust, 70mm BBK throttle body & mass air sensor, Hypertech chip, K&N intake, Hellwig sway bars, IAS shocks, 17 in wheels & tires, a Precision torque convertor ( similar to the one on the lightning's)and a Transgo shift kit. I have been researching types of superchargers and the Eaton looks like the best. I am now debating on whether to have my stock motor balanced and rebuilt with a magnuson supercharger bolted on or to purchase a 2001 lightning crate motor. The supplier says the 97 e40de should bolt up with no problem but I will need to swap out the computer as well. I am curious as to what all is involved in putting a 2001 computer on a 97 truck and what mistakes I need to avoid to keep from doing any costly damage? Also, are there any sensors that would need to be change or any computer adjustments need to be made? Any advice would be greatly appreciative.
The L crate motor has sensors that the N/A motor doesn't. To make it work you will need the PCM and engine wire harness from the L. You will most probably also need the inter cooler componants . The easiest bet would to get an aftermarket supercharger and a custom Chip.
