4.6L Valve train noise

When I start my new Supercrew in the morning, the valve train noise is almost frightening.....help...

I am using a Motorcraft filter FL820S and Motorcraft 5w20 oil...I plan to change to Valvoline, now that it is available....

Any ideas???? What about switching to a 5w30, maybe a synthetic, or Mobil1 0w30....

All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.....thanks

Cool

A lot of guys on this board are going to tell you to use a synthetic, however, I like Castrol 5W30 in my '99 4.6. My engine also makes an unusual noise for the first few seconds after it is cranked, and I haven't taken the time to look for the problem, but I don't think it's in the valve train. It sounds more like a metalic popping sound, possibly the injectors firing. I only noticed it recently, since the weather has cooled off somewhat. Let us hear from you if you determine what your problem is. Good luck.

What does your owners manual say to use? Mine says 5w30 already.

MY owner's manual specifically states 5w20 under all driving conditions....there is no guessing or compensating for the desert or Alaska or anything....

My truck is a 2001 Supercrew with a 4.6L v8...
