Cool Jacobs ignition works

I am several tanks of fuel into my new Jacobs DIS Ignition. I can say I do have more power and I am getting better milage. Right now I am getting about 10% better milage but I have to say I have been heavy on the right foot since buying it. I also notice no smoke out the tail pipe under full throttle (use to see some). The install was easy for the Jacobs module but the plug and wire change was a S.O.B. to say the least. No worse then a plug and wire change without the ignition.
Doorslammer69, I forwarded the information you asked for to your e-mail. If you have problems with it then post me here and I will find a fax machine.

Just wire seporators and tie down plastic faseners. Don't know if this mod is the best for the money but I tow a trailer often and I know it will do well for me.
I bought mine from Jacobs but check the price first and be ready with your best price when you call them. You will need to get the part number that matches your year/engine from Jacobs in order to shop around. Summett is one of the places you should check. I think you have seen other posts on this subject.
Doorslammer69, got the e-mails back undeliverable. ??? Give your e-mail again and I will resend...

wlf - I checked out the part number at summit, 335711 right? Well anyway it came up as out of stock, priced for $374, but under product description it said DIS IGNITON CONTROL EXPLORER. So maybe I'll try calling Jacobs themselves and see if I can get them to match the price, or even come close. How long did it take to order straight through jacobs?

Captain,
Yea that is the number on the side of the box I recieved from Jacobs (I just checked again to be sure). They WILL match the price, I got a refund when I confronted them. Don't tell them it is out of stock at summett. Nice thing about purchasing from Jacobs is the Lifetime warrentee on the wires and one year free replacement and lifetime nominal fee (I think it's $32.50) on the computer. They wanted more then two weeks on delivery so I paid the x-tra for priorty shipping. I ordered on friday late, they shipped on monday and I recieved on weds.

Question

Are any of you guys running Bosch +4's with your DIS? I know Jacobs says you shouldn't, but if I decide to spring for this system, there is no way I'm going to voluntarily change them. I added Jacobs wires 2 years ago and the plugs last fall and I NEVER want to go near either one of those jobs EVER again!

Sorry bout the e-mail mix-up WLF. it's SundayNiagara@hotmail.com or doorslammer69@msn.com. Changed wires myself (Holley), had so many cuts that i would pay someone to do it the next time. Griot's Garage in Washington sells a spark plug wrench guaranteed to get any plug or your money back. 1-800-345-5789--givem the plug size--costs around $20.00 + shipping. If it works, it'll be worth it. gonna order DIS from Jacobs, $290.69 from Summit--don't need wires. Also plan to change plugs to plat +4. Airaid (latest mod) seems to provide a little more power, but no improvement in mileage. Planning on switching to true dual exhaust sometime in the future. You guys who switch to Jacobs DIS please track mileage--form-- to -- mpg, as i am very interested. Due to a long commute, a chip is out of the question (hi-test gas). Glad i was able to help you WLF. I'm on AOL IM as SundayNiagara, if you want to chat.

Ok doorslammer69. You mixed up the msn and
hotmail. I'll resend now. I am watching milage. I have the duel platnum plugs and am also not going to change them. I called Jacobs and they said that late model ford owners are having no problem with duel platnum so I would go ahead and try the specialty plugs. A little advise to anyone ready to change their plugs, use a plug socket with a rubber gromet inside to get the plugs out the one which does not have a gromet to put the new ones in. Also make sure you have 3/8 socket wrench with the swivel type head on it.
Sorry for the long reply but you asked!!!

Thumbs up

I got great results with the Jacobs unit on my '95. They guaranteed 14% mileage increase, I actually got better. The power was up, especially low to mid range. I also have the built in anti theft on mine. Between fuel and insurance savings, the unit will pay for itself in less than two years, and I don't put many miles on my truck! I'm glad to see that Jacobs' systems work just as well on the late model trucks.
As an added note..... to my knowledge Jacobs is the only ignition to offer a money back guarantee.

I have a 2000Expy. I noticed that it does not have conventional plug wires. Looks like each plug has a small coil on top. My buddy's 99EXPy is the same way? We both have the 5.4s. When did ford change to this and I wonder does Jacobs have a box for these also?

The 5.4L has one coil per spark plug. Since there is a lot of energy lost in plug wires, this is an ideal set-up. Since the Jacobs uses the factory coils (the 4.6L has two coils each serving 4 plugs) on my truck, I would think the may have something for the 5.4. You will have to call them to find out. LOL...

RedLariat: The Jacobs part # for the box alone is 331711. Attn: WLF your e-mail didn't come thru. Tried to order from Jacobs toda 22 at Summit price, they wouldn't do it. So I ordered from Summit 2nd day air--should have it here wed 24. They (Jacobs) said they couldn't come near that price "$290.69" + shipping.VERY STRANGE!!!!!!! will let everyone know what improvements i get.
