Question Clicking (rattle) @ about 1200 rpms????

Newbie F150 owner
Recently picked up 99 Auto - 5.4l 30K miles still under warrantee.

After long road trip I noticed a rattling noise (heard from inside cab) at about 1200-1500 rpms only in 1st gear no matter how cold/warm and only from a standstill. Maintenance has always been up to date. Any ideas??

Also a newbie to the website. Nice place!

I was reading the thread about the 5.4 busted head gaskets (oil leaks on passenger side). Exactly where do I inspect to watch for leakage. I have about 6000 left on warrantee and the truck comes from Canada. So far, there is no loss of oil. Should I be worried?

Thanks

Hey Ef150,

As far as the oil leak, look on the right side, where the head meets the block. I have only personaly saw one leaker and it was towards the rear of the head. It was very noticable, had a lot of grime accumulated around where it was leaking. Alslo what made my buddy want me to look was he kept smelling an oil smell when he stopped and was idling.
As far as your rattling, look at your cat shield on the l/h side. I have seen a few that are very close to the frame and will touch it when idling sometimes. Or it has cracked ( the sheild) and is rattling. Just an idea where to possibly look

ecm747x,

Thanks for the help

I ended up joining the head gasket fiasco club and started redirecting my threads there.
