Question Explorer 4.6 piston slap???

Looking at buying a 97 Explorer with 4.6. It has 60,000 miles on it. I am familiar with the piston slap issues from some of these engines in the F-150 from info here on F150Online. Anybody ever here of an explorer having this problem? Or any other ford using this engine?

I thought that the piston slap was most commonly associated with the 5.4. But i could be wrong. Hope someone else can help more.

I thought the explorer had the 5.0 (302) in it. Its the new body style explorer w/ the 4.6.

Not sure I have ever seen an Explorer with a 4.6L v8, I thought they only had 4.0L v6's or 5.0L v8's.

You got it the other way around...the '97 and '98 4.6's are the slappers IF they were made in Canada. Read all about it on the home page.

Checked options at Kelly Blue Book. 97 Explorer had two engines in 97 4.0 v-6 and 5.0 v-8. Must be a 5.0 in the one I looked at. So slapping want be an issue.
