Post Airbox Mod Updates

Ok, now that it's been out there awhile, can those of you that have tried Steve W.'s Airbox mod in the Tech. Articles section let us know how well it works? How has it affected your gas mileage? For that matter, how has any FIPK affected your mileage? Thanks!

Well about 8 months ago I did a patial mod on the airbox. Removed everything from the filter up to the fender leaving a open element filter. I did see a change in acceleration and mileage. Last month I removed the inner tube just in front of the throttle body but at the same time I installed a 2500 stall converter so I can not tell if this portion of the mod made a difference or not.

I also have flowmaster exhaust my Dyno numbers are 228.9Hp and 306.5Tq. This is with a 5.4

I did a different air intake modification. (See tech article on my website). This one involves removing the air intake silencer.

I did not perform the one you write of, but of the one I did, I noticed an increase in torque off the line. Granted, it was only a slight increase, but that's pretty good, since it cost me $0. I have noticed a small increase in mileage since then, but can't say for 100% certainty that this mod is the reason.

I plan on doing Steve W's airbox mod maybe this summer. I plan on just hacking the stock airbox.

I did the air box thing and it was ok. This last christmas I got a WMS Velocity Tube with a K&N. I Do notice an increase in throttle response and it pulls very well from about 2800 rpm to 4000 rpm. Forget the mod go to a complete system.

Cool

The complete system is worth it, if for no other reason then the rumble sound that now comes from under my hood. Takes me back to the 70's in a heartbeat. Also got some performence and throttle responce. I found a great price on CarPartsOnSale.com on the K&N Generation II. They also gave me a real nice F-150 T-shirt FREE... LOL...
