30,000 mile maintenance
30,000 mile maintenance
Just bought my 2000 F-150 4x4 and stopped by the dealer the other day to check on the cost of a 30,000 mile servicing. They spouted off what seemed to be a mile long list of stuff that I should do and then gave me a price of $400 big ones. I was just wondering, what are the things I should have serviced at 30,000 miles above and beyond a normal 5,000 service especially if I am not sure of the truck's vehicle service history. Thanks in advance.
brakemanf150; The only thing I can see is the transmission fluid,If you have an auto, Mine cost 130.00 bucks because,my trans.has the high cost oil in it. Mercon 5 I belive, the other cost is to insp and fix what they find. Look in your owners manual. It list the things that should be done at that mileage... Hope this helps Oldgray

When I hit 30,000 miles I called up to the dealership I bought my truck from and asked what all they do for 30,000 mile maintenance. Just like in your case they ran off a whole list of stuff that was not in the service manual that came with the truck. So just for the heck of it I called a second dealership that was closer and asked them the same question, and got an entirely different list of services they perform for '30,000 mile maintenance' that totaled about $300 more than the first dealership I called (included doing a brake job that wasn't necessary, cleaning the fuel injection system, and several other things that were not in the service manual and more imortantly were not necessary.) After realizing that every dealership doesn't go by the service manual for what Ford recommends at service intrevals, I ended up calling 5 or 6 dealerships, all of which had a different list of services they perform with as much of a difference in price between the cheapest quote and most expensive as $400. Rediculous if you ask me! I had assumed all dealerships would include the same services at the same intrevals.
I'd recommend looking in your service manual that came with your truck and telling the dealership (or wherever you go) exactly what you want done if your not going to do it yourself. (For simple maintenance, I wouldn't pay extra to take it to a dealership.) I belive at 30,000 miles all you need to do is flush the transmission fluid and replace the transmission filter, and replace your fuel filter (although you could definately go longer.) Engine Coolant doesn't have to flushed until I belive 50,000 or 60,000 miles, then your supposed to do it every 30,000 miles after that. (Every dealership I called included doing it at 30,000 miles despite the manual saying it wasn't necessary.) From my expierence taking your truck in and asking to have '30,000 mile maintenance' is about the same as bringing it in with a blank check and telling them to do anything and everything they can think of!
