Question please help

I received my airaid today and am going to attempt to install it tomorrow, based on everything I've read the install is very simple and usually only takes around 30 minutes, no matter what it takes, I'm anxious to see the difference. I have one question though. I know a lot of people have mentioned something about the K&N filter having to be oiled or something similar to that. Is that the case or is the filter already oiled when they ship it to you?

Thumbs up

It come already oiled. The cleaning kit you buy has the cleaner and oiler for your K&N. It runs about $10.00 for the kit.

No need to oil that K&N filter it is ready to go. However, take your time on the install. You don't want to damage the sensors. I don't know the year or engine of your truck, but I spent an hour or so on my install.

Good Luck!!

I just installed mine yesterday on my 4.2. I posted some comments on installation in the V-6 section - I don't know if all my comments are relevant to a V-8 installation. Took me about 45 minutes; would have been less with really good instructions.

powerandsound,

A couple of tips: when you install the kit, tighten up all connections good. You don't have to "wrench" 'em on but you don't want any air leaks. Then in a week or two check them again and retighten. Make sure the right side mounting bracket is far enough away from everything to hold the filter clear when it flexes.

When I bought my Air Raid kit from the F150 online store there was a coupon inside the box for a free reoiling kit. I used the coupon from Air Raid and had the kit in a week or two. Mine was preoiled and all set right from Air Raid out of the box.

Talking

Thanks for all your tips and info that you all gave me. It helped out. I put the airaid on this morning, I really didn't sleep much last night cause I was so excited, so early this morning, I started on it and it took about an hour, being really careful and making sure everything was right. I did have some question about the MAF to the filter adapter, the thing that is held together with four bolts. I noticed that some light does pass through, though very minimal. Of course I tried it out right after I got it on and it ran AWESOME! Seriously, I was completely impressed with the sound, which is an added bonus and the power that it gave me. Next thing for me is a Superchip, once I can talk my girlfriend into getting it for me, it's going to be my birthday present. But thank you all for your help and info.

Powerandsound,
I made a rubber gasket to place between the filter mount and the MAF mount. I think Airaid should've supplied one. That thing needs to be air tight so no dirt can get in there.
Just curious, did you get a whistle sound at all? Mine whistles at cruising speed others here say theirs whistles at idle ??

I'll definitely try and make some type of gasket, will there be any trouble if I continue to drive the truck for a few days without the gasket? I'll do my best about getting one fixed up tomorrow, but with work you never know. As for the whistle sound, I actually don't get one, not that I can hear anyway. You can hear it sucking air in and you can hear the growl, but not really a whistle. Thanks for the info on the gasket.
