Unhappy Ford Blues

I have a 89 F-150 4x4 302 5 speed 3.55 gears with 33" tires. I am tired of the Z-71's making a fool out of me on top end take off or anything! I am going to pull my engine! I would like to get 300 or 350 horses out of it what should i do to it to get the power i want? I am a poorboy so i need to keep the cost down!!!! Is my engine a roller motor

I had a 1990 Lariet 302 a few years back & did a lot to get it to run with the stock electronics. Nothing helped. If I had it to do over, I would have done intake & carb. & vacume/mechanical distributer. It would really be nice with an Edelbrock setup with heads& intake & headers. depends on what "I" could afford.

yes, I believe your truck is a roller motor. If you are looking for 300+ horsepower you should save yourself the headache and expense, and purchase a Motorsport crate motor. The motor you have now is not a H.O. and would require a good set of heads, upper and lower intake and a mass air swap.I think a GT40 crate motor with a mass air conversion would be cheaper in the long run.
Just my opinion.

The engine I pulled from my '90 was flat tappet & rockers. The crate engine would be nice but big $$$ if ethomas want's to spend that much.

I agree with the above, but I would swap out the efi for a carb/intake kit, get an exhaust, and filter, and run really low gears.
