Hey guys,

I just bought my 98 F150 XLT 5.4L on 04/01/00. The next morning I started to hear a noise that had the same symptons as the dreaded Piston Slap, but I was unsure of what piston slap sounds like.

So here are 4 sound files of my engine... now that I have had a chance to actually get under the hood and listen I am doubting it is the Piston Slap. It almost sounds like pulley bearings or something like that squeaking. Before I only listened from in the cab or with the Window down. That would be great if that is all it is.

What does it sound like to you?
It isn't the piston slap noise is it?

Ok... the more I listened the more this thing sounds like a pulley on the front of the engine. I can't tell which one, but I believe it is definitely not piston slap now that I have been able to get under the hood and listen to it much closer now.

It is what I would call squeaking of some sort. Anyway, from inside the truck it definitely sounded different.

I am starting to feel a little better that it sounds like a squeak coming from a pulley or something.

Still... tell me what it sounds like to you.
