I brought my truck in last week because I could smell burnt oil. They put the die in the motor and found out that it was leaking oil around the head gasket. They kept it a couple of days and fixed the problem. I was very impressed with the service. I owned a Z-71 and had to threaten to whip everybody's a$$ to get them to fix problems. Service after the sell I think is more important than the sell. If Ford keeps this up I will be very happy.

Imoore69 ,I've got the dye in my truck right now since my last change at 3200 miles Feb 12 I've only put 700 miles on truck.But I did call my service dept and they said I could bring any time and they could throw it on a lift and check for any signs of leak.I am surprised at the good service I am recieving from this dealer and I didn't even buy the truck from them.Do you have any aftermarket mods on yout truck that they questioned?I am a liitle worried they might give me a hard time.

How long do you have to run the die in your truck? They put the die in my truck and heated the motor up for a couple of hours and checked it with the light. They didn't let me leave with it.

Where do you think the oil is coming from on your truck?

I had that burning smell you said you had but only after driving truck somewhat hard on acceleration,brought truck in and told service rep they went over truck completely couldn't find leak they changed oil and added dye figured next change they would check,but I don't put to many miles on truck as you can see 3900 since last Sept.I don't smell oil any more and I check usually twice a week for any oil anywhere around engine on manifold,ground nothing.The only place it looks like oil is around the head gasket itself not really oil though just looks like some kind of moisture,when you rub with finger its like a black soot,but oil level is fine,anti freeze is fine no discoloration or foam.I will be bringing in Fri morning before work,they will take a look and if its leaking they will order parts and fix later.As far as the chip I paid $230 shipped to my door it took about an hour to install and it is like night and day as far as performance,trans shifting is cleaner, acceleration is quicker it adds about 25HP I'm not sure on the tourque,I've also added a K&N fipk kit and a Gibson dual cat back out rear.I think with all the mods I've done I'm at about 310HP and close to 400lbs tourque,there is a definate improvement and all 3 combined are worth the money.Total for all 3 was $646. I installed everything myself.If you decide to do any mods I would suggest the chip first,then do the fipk and then the exhaust.My last truck was a 99 lightning which is what I traded in for this F250 LD.With the mods I have done off the line the lightning would take me but I tell ya once I hit 2nd which is close to 50 mph with the chip I could keep close with it.The chip is a worthwhile investmant whether you are into performance or not and they are guaranteed for life and some are being resold for close to what they were paid for.I will let you know how I make out with oil and check out the chip section on this site.Good Luck.

Barlitz, There was a little bit of residue around my valve covers also, but I was told that the leak was on the head gasket. They told me that the valve covers were not leaking. I hope they have corrected the problem and I don't have any more leaks.

Thanks for the info on the chip. Im gonna have to look in to it. My main concern is the shifting. I don't like that long transition to 2nd. I would like it to jerk a little more.

 

barlitz, what dealership are taking your truck to? I'm just trying to figure out where to take my truck when I need any service.

Blue2k,I saw you are from Quincy I bought a lightning from Quirk last May traded for truck I have now there service has to be the worst I've ever experienced.I now bring my truck to Jack Madden Ford in Norwood,I bought it from Natick Ford.Jack Madden just built a new service facility and so far have been very good they also have a tech that owns a lightning there,they follow up service with calls a few days later and I was impressed with that.Had my first check up with them it was $69.00 included oil change and whatever else they do,second oil change was $21.95.The owner is usually around also so that is good in case you have any beefs.I will keep this truck and let them do all my service and probably trade in around 2002 when new 5.4 3 valve engines get put in the F150 and hopefully purchase from them.

inmoore69 if that residue is normal then I think I'm okay but bringing truck in Sat at 7:30 they're gonna throw up on lift and check with a light, thanks for all the helpful info.Will keep you posted.BTW engine build date 8/13/99 and that happens to be Friday the 13th.Hopefully that means good luck.

barlitz, thanks for the offer. I have always wondered about Jack Madden Ford. Last summer when I was in the area, I noticed that someone parked their Ford van next to the dealership and put a sign on the side that said "Another Madden Lemon" so I was a little skeptical after I saw that.

I never saw that sign and hopefully I don't have a problem with them ,if I do I'll just go to Natick Ford where I bought the truck it just happens to be a little to far away,thats why I gave Madden a try on the service.

Had truck checked with light today no oil leaks,and they never said a word about any of the mods I have done to my truck.
