Loyal Ford fan for 25yrs: Just bought A Chevy....
First off, I do not support the aid to those countries. That is out of MY direct control. What is in my control, is how MY money is spent on goods.
I haven't looked at the trade deficet lately, but I am sure as in the past, there is more coming in than going out.

My buddy bought a new 2000 Chevy truck. It runs good but the squeak and rattles will run you out of the cab. Also he has found stress crack in his beams. Good luck with you’re truck and don’t but a load in the bed. Also did you get the magnetic bumper option so it will pick up all the part as the truck falls apart? Just joking. Have a good tday
I agree with Nascar88 (BTW I like your name) my BIGGEST quality concern with my old Silverado was the awful fit and finish of interior parts and body panels. I had both rear quarter windows replaced under TSB's because at interstate speed it sounded like a 747 was getting ready to take off in the back seat. (Lot's of wind noise) To make matters worse the plastic trim around the windshield would begin to vibrate at approx 65 MPH in cold weather and the windshield would make a popping noise that would make you think it was getting ready to land in your lap. Again Chevy service NEVER figured that one out. Also, as I said, most of the seams between body panels were a poor fit and the driver's door made an awful screech when closed in cold weather. I really never experienced any mechanical concerns, but I traded the truck with only a little over 20K on it.

...Whoops! My two year old pushed the sleep button on the keyboard and interrupeted my last post. I traded the truck with only a little over 20K and had had no real major mechanical trouble, but the limited slip rear axle was beginning to pop going around curves and the warranty was to expire soon. I have learned from experience that being in GM land without warranty is a dangerous place to be..... Anyway I hope you have lots of luck with your Silverado. Keep us posted.

Vroten
I too have had success with chevys but I love my Fords. All the chevys I have had had the same annoying problems that vroten was describing. Not the case with the Fords. All my company trucks are now Fords and I have yet to have a problem with them (one of them is an 82 F250 with 200k miles). I hope his chevy was built better than mine were.
I suppose I should have mentioned that I've owned Chevy's in the past, too. I've lost track of all the cars and trucks and motorcyles I've had in the last 30 years. As I said earlier, I've had great luck with my Fords in the past (except an 84 T-bird turbo coupe that we don't want to talk about), and some of my Chev's. I just always felt that the Ford's were better put together than the Chev's. I think Ford is starting to act like the old GM; We're number 1, so we don't have to try harder. Ford seems to assume that they've got the best selling truck and they don't have to keep up with the competition. I think GM realizes now that that can be a costly mistake and has started to make better vehicles. At least that's my impression with the latest crop of Ford and GM vehicles.
From what I can tell you already, I think that Ford puts together a better interior that Chevy. My new Silverado is far more luxurious than my F250 LD was, but I've already noticed that the Chev isn't as tight in the interior. Like a few reviews I've read mentioned, the dash seems to be made of cheaper plastic than the Ford. So far, that is my ONLY complaint though. And if things do go wrong, I decided to go with an extended warranty this time so at least I won't have to worry about paying for repairs.
You guy's don't realize how painful it is to me to say anything bad about Ford trucks, I've always defended them in the past. But I've always felt that brand loyalty was a mistake and always told myself that if something isn't living up to your expectations, then it's time to find something that will. If Dodge builds the best truck (in my opinion), I'll buy it. Same with Ford or Chevy. Hell, I drive Peterbilt's for a living. And let me tell you, there isn't a Ford or Chevy that can compare to a Pete or a KW. If they built pickups, I'd have one right now!

Warren I understand how you might have became upset with your vehicle. I have a 97 F-150 and have had little to no problem with (95,000 miles). But this is not to say that another Ford owner with the same model and miles has had many a problem. Some times you get a Chevy builder on the line during production and you have a problem.
My girlfriend has a 98 Camaro with 84,000 miles. This car sounds worse than my first car I owned in 92’, a 71’ mustang (200,000 miles+). I think the quality of the Ford and Chevy are almost the same off the show room floor but the quality of the Chevy decreases much faster than the Ford.
Not to beat a dead horse but, this little discussion on the Japanese vehicles and American made vehicles. A statement was made that a Texan makes rice and sends it to Japan and then they send us vehicles. Now tell me? Is that one man in Texas making his rice worth 10,000 workers in a plant? I do also believe that it is ridiculous to believe that buying a Ford, Chevy or Dodge that you are buying all American. Ford put a Yamaha engine in there SHO’s. The best you can hope for it to buy a vehicle that was mostly made and assembled in the United States.
Lastly, no one should be criticized for being patriotic. And also the number one export of Texas is cattle!
