Question 5.4 Piston Slap Factory Fix Date?

I have been reading the "slap" problems discussions and was wondering the date the Windsor plant started adressing the problem with its' "fix"? My engine has a date of 7/7/99 on its sticker -- is this before or after the "fix was started? -- Thanks

Hi Markmizzou,
What I have been told, is that any truck with the build date around October of 1999 has the corrected engine that's not suppose to slap. I guess that it's the 2000 Model year trucks and vans. Bugman.

BadAngler,

I recently read a post on here that another F150 member has the slap problem and their build date was in May 1999.

Red face

My 5.4L was manufactured on 5/10/99. The dealer's service department performed a cold start diagnosis on my truck yesterday morning, and they confirmed that I do in fact have the piston slap problem. The truck had been left outside at the dealership overnight. The temperature was about 45F degrees, and I was there with the service technician when he started the engine. They are estimating about one month to get a new engine. The truck has 8800 miles on it. Too bad!
