I installed some last fall and they seemed to clean up the idling. I can't comment on mileage because mine is always poor in the winter. But, I certainly can't say anything about these plugs.

Thumbs up

Ford4604x4, I put them in my old 91 Chev Van a couple of months ago and couldn't tell any drastic change but the old dog does seem to idle better and I think my mileage is a little better, maybe 1mpg, I really don't watch it that close. Nice thing about the plus 4 plugs is that you don't have to gap or index them and they are supposed to go 100
K miles.

I got mine for $4.99 each at:
www.automedicsupply.com

price includes free shipping and no tax unless your in Ca.

>>>>I put them in my Taurus SHO and noticed improved performance and mileage on the car. Seem to be worth it, the back plugs on that V6 are very hard to change as well, so I wanted something to last. I am very satisfied with them.

Question

What's up everyone. I was just pondering the idea of putting Bosch Platinums in my truck. I have heard nothing but good things on theses plugs. Is changing them really that much of a task? I was also wondering what everyone thinks on the wires. What brands seem to be the best. Sorry, I'm somewhat of a rookie at this stuff. thanx.

Question

Thats strange I hear everywhere that they do wonders but when I tried them, my engine dropped from 23 to 12 MPG. It was unable to fire up after the 4th or 5th turn, lost power and so forth. Basically what I'm saying is they really did not work for me. I immeadiatly pulled them out and got the Ford plugs (they are platinum too).

Did I get the wrong brand of Bosh plugs? I paid around 4.00 dollars Canadian per package (2 plugs).

I have been using them since Oct. It is my belief that, w/ 4 separate spark points, the plug will last longer. If you've changed them in a 5.4, you'll know why that's desireable. It is a real Pain in the @$$!

Idle is a bit smoother. Gas mileage was unchanged. Performance; I can't really say there was an improvement.

Sir James...
Just wait until you try to change them.

I don't know if aftermarket wires are available. the 5.4's have coil on plug set up.

While my truck was being serviced under warranty for exhaust system noises, I was talking to the technician doing a tune-up on an adjacent Ranger. He said that he has seen Ford cars and trucks come in for "repair" that had recently changed over to the Bosch platinum or +4's that would not even idle. He claims that changing back to Motorcraft plugs immediately fixed the problem!

Don't know what to actually believe without trials of various types of plugs.

I put them in my last truck and they preformed well.

4byFord, no way could you have gotten the Bosch Platinum Plus Four's, two for $4 Canadian! Whats that? About 25 cents US? You must have gotten the wrong ones.

I heard something similar to y2kxlt. The guy (teenager) at the auto parts store told me to use motorcraft plugs and wires because they were designed and tested in a ford electrical system. The others (splitfire, Bosch etc.) were designed in an independent lab/engine. This seems to make sense, but I have also heard much good about the Bosch platinums. What do y'all know about this? (it certainly is more then me) I have to change my plugs and wires this summer and am very interested in incresed gas mileage howerver possible. Thanks, I love this sight. -- Martin

Cool

Well, I can tell you for a fact that the Bosch Platinum +4 spark plugs for my truck cost me $17.99 + taxes Canadian for 2 plugs. I put them in last December along with some winter weight and cap (topper). Have taken weight out and will be taking cap off next month. Last year, went to Sudbury for vacation (24 mpg), will be going again this year (1st week of July) and will be able to compare the mileage to last year. So far I am getting 16.5 - 17 mpg compared to 14.5 - 15.5 mpg with weight (420 lbs.) in. Still alot of drag with cap on, should be better with tonneau cover on. As for idling, the truck is just as smooth as before if not smoother and it has better get up and go (seat of pants feel) then Ford plugs did.
