spary some wd-40 on the out side of the boots.they will slide right in.when you pull out the old ones look at the angle of the boot,so when you put the new in the set right on the bottom.where the boot hits the top of the hole it has to sit flat.if the angle is wrong it won't be flat.chang the plugs at the same time, kill two birds with one stone.i have the jacobs ignition and wires.i gained 4 mpg with the system.with just the wires you will see a 1/2 mpg maybe 3/4.

Hi veloci acouple things I would like to tell you is to first blow off the area around the spark plug boots with compressed air. Also make sure you have acouple different length exstension, this makes it alot easier. And one more thing make sure your extensions will hold on to the socket securley or the socket may get stuck in the head after you tight'n them up. Some sprak plug sockets with the rubber insulater holds on to the ceramic pretty good. By the way good choice on the wires. Have fun it's a job.....

Just some advise. Good idea to coat plug threads with anti sieze. Have seen expensive aluminum heads damaged from corrosion. And don't get too heavy on the torque.

Cool

I will be installing the Jacobs Mileage Master and wires on the 4.6L this weekend. I located the box on the right side of the engine, in front of the windshield washer container. Tight fit but a good cool place and nothing rubs or touches. It looks like the right aft plug will be the bear to get out. Kevin 3636, What plug did you change to and what gap did you use? As the stock plug is platinum and that is not recommended, I went with AC Delco R44LTS6 and gapped them at .065. Anyone with any more ideas or suggestions feel free! Also With the Jacobs and a Blower they recommend a gap of .040

I suggest you get a buddy to help. I did the passenger side and he did the drivers side. Changed plugs and wires and knocked off a few Mich Lights when the job was done.
Had to keep him straight so the wires went in the correct place. No beer until the job was over. It still took a couple of hours with two people.

Make sure all of your wires are the correct length before you get into it. I installed some Jacob's wires a couple of years ago and 2 of the wires were much too short. It took some creative routing to make it work. I would hope that since you are using Ford wires, they should be correct. Also, if you are considering changing plugs at any time in the future, do it this weekend! Messing with the plugs and wires on the 4.6 is not a place you will want to return to for a long time. I installed Bosch +4's. They cleaned up the idling and should last a long time. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time, this job can be somewhat tedious and time consuming. Also, I found it best to change one stocker at a time. Not yank all the stockers at once. Good Luck.

Granpa
Plug #4 was a bear. I used a socket with a swivel and short extension. Some have used a long extension place up against the firewall. My 97 has a cover over the main fuse/wires and I removed that cover to get a little more room to work. Just don't get you metal tool against those wires.
I also agree. Remove one at a time. I laid the new wires out on the ground and as I removed the old ones I found a new one or comparable length. I ended up with a couple of long wires on the drivers side but that is much better than having them too short.
