Engine swap for a 302 v8
I was interested in purchasing an additional 4.2L v6 to build up to handle a fair amount of boost from either a supercharger or NOS system.Since then i have found that just for the motor i was in the ballpark of 1500 hundred and more.I have checked everywhere and that was the cheapest i have found. At that price my project would be way over budget.A friend had suggested to me that i find an older 302 v8 motor and build it up.The parts are cheaper and more availble. To keep costs down i would go with a carborated setup and eventually purchase an aftermarket fuel injection kit.The big plus is how much easyer it is to extract horsepower from the 5.0L than it is the 4.2L.So my questions are has anybody done or seen this before and dose anyone no what problems i would be faceing.I realize this is alot of work, but i have alot of knowlegeble friends to help. The reason why i am asking all of you fisrt is that they dont own any f-150s(that sucks)
Are you talking about dropping the 5.0 into a '97 and up F150?
If so, then it'll be a very large and expensive project. Nothing from the original truck will fit on the 5.0.
Some time ago, another member was saying that he was actually doing one of these swaps. Kept us up to date for a little while, but then have not heard anything since.

i realize this is no small project but i will discard almost all the eletrical components except head lights, windows, radio, posibly airbags, and turn signals.i will keep it carborated for now and will upgrade later.i know a buddy that makes custom motor mounts so that is taken care of.i just hope my five speed will bolt up somehow.i also plan to replace all of the gauges with autometergauges instead of trying to mate the stock one up.
You probably don't want to hear this but unless you enjoy spending lots of money, countless problems and headaches don't do this ! Sell your old truck and buy another truck that has power you want. I've been down this road and it wasn't a good time. Yeah, it can be done with enough time and money you can make any mod. work. Don't mean to come down on your idea but the memories of my switch make me wish I 'd followed my advice. Good luck with ever way you go.
RELIC.....

i think they meant that you should do a search on this web page. there have been a couple of people that have thought of doing this, but i dont think anyone actually finished the project. good luck!

TRUEBLUE16,
Why not start with the EFI 302 out of an 88+ mustang? There are tons of performance parts out there, and those motors are already mass air. It would likely be easier than building a carbed setup and swapping over later. You could probably fabricate the mounts for a T-5 transmission and be all set. I'd bet you could find all the parts over on www.corral.net
