Any Predictions

Hey guys I thought I'd ask this on behalf of my father in-law. He bought a new 150 SuperCab with the 4.6 in 99. After 3000 miles he did his first oil change. His next oil change was at 26,000 miles! He now has over 60,000 miles with no problems or smoke or anything. Should he be looking for a new truck with the low rates now or just hang on to the truck. Just thought I'd ask.

23k is a lot of miles without an oil change. Does it use any oil? What did the oil look like when it was finally changed? Back in the 80's when I was in the rental car business, I went to get a '88 Corolla that "broke down". When I pulled the dip stick, there was a black, chunky, paste-like substance on it. Turns out it went 28k without an oil change. I know that's a little 4 vs. your 8, but it makes me wonder what your oil looked like.
