engine problems ( 5.4 )
lemonford, I agree 100%.
I still do not have my truck back yet.
A new motor before 20k miles, a bad head that blew a plug and the coil flew with it, breaks repaired twice for shuddering, steering wheel replaced twice because of bad leather, all four doors re-adjusted.
I bought the 100k mile warnt.
because of these problems.
After getting the new motor, FORD will not up the warnt. on the new one!
All I get from FORD and the dealer here in Michigan is the run around.
I'm still waiting for my truck,
4 weeks and counting.
Over a $30,000.00 flower pot!
lemonford...
Trust me..I 100% agree with you...we paid good money and should have a quality made vehicle.
Best of luck and keep us posted!

Lemonford, I know where your coming from. I felt the same way with the oil leak. It started at about 4000 miles and it took 3 more trips in to get the problem right. I will say this though, I have a white truck thus a white engine compartment and when my new 2000 motor was installed I looked up down an sideways with a drop light and could not tell the motor had ever been removed. Not a sratch or connector out of place... Perfect install. They don't even need to remove the hood!! I know you want a new truck and I hope you get it, but if you don't you will be amazed how smooth the swap will go. They do a long block right from the line. And I for one trust the guy that installs the motor at the dealer as much if not more than the guy on the line with the chip on his shoulder. As a gear head myself I'll bet the mechanic gets a kick out of motor swaps in such a kick butt vehicle. Got to be more fun then the old starter here CV joint there B.S. Thus they do an extra neat job just to prove they can. Ok I'll shut up already. Good Luck!!!!

I currently have over 59,000 miles on my 5.4 and not one single problem. Knock on wood, it may not get me to work tomorrow but tonight it has proved itself to me. Better overall quality than the import cars my wife has had over the years. Accuras, Hondas, and Nissans all have had more problems than my F-150. Hope those of you with problems get them resolved and have no future complaints.

Hey, MTNBYKER, nice to see a post from PC. I'd like to know where you got your magnaflow and how much it cost. I drive up Parleys every now and then, and would love some extra "rumble".
any info would be great.

Having Good luck here...
First Engine replaced for engine slap at 13k. New engine still running great at 9k now. The really great thing about these Tritons is their low end torque - bad if you are racing, gooood if you are doing almost anything else. It keeps the power band in the usable rpm range, and the power band is very wide compared to conventional engines. This makes for very smooth acceleration, and versatility- especially with a manual transmission. My Superduty weighs 6600 lbs. empty, but the 5.4 feels very powerful and responsive moving all of that weight around because of it's low end torque.
Both engines I have had have been flawless except for engine slap on the first. I thing the Superduties have a separate run of 5.4s then the F150s and Expeditions but I am not sure what all that effects.
My New Engine has these identifiers:
Engine Label: “ke881aa Ford Windsor Ont. Canada 991322211 433 5.4 5-12-99"
Heads Label: "NEW_DOWEL 5.4 Reg. Duty 19:43 B Mach 5-19-99 8656"

Well, I just picked up my truck,
This is what had to be done...
#8 plug blown out of the head, swaped valves, valve springs, cam shaft and oil galley plugs, installed new valve seals, new head gasket, new cyl. head, front cover timing and a ol change!
All this on a 2nd motor with less than a thousand miles on it.
Now to top it all off, it has to go back again!!!!
On the way home from picking it up the breaks started to shutter again,
this time so bad that chevy owners started to look.
This time it's going to a new dealer, maybe i'll have better luck, if not i'll have a loaded F-250 for sale!
