Just happened to notice that I had a lot of nasty build up inside of my throttle body. Any suggestions. Has anyone cleaned these before. I just dont want to start hosing stuff down and mess something up.

Black 98 4x4,4.6l Triton Dark tinted windows, bedliner, factory molded splashguards, K&N filter and airbox modifications,factory fogs added along with Auto headlights, spray-on door sill protectant, Painted (and chrome) throttle cover and other underhood components.

 

The throttle body and injectors have a deposit resistant coating on them. This is why you see a decal that says: "Do not clean inside the throttle body."

Do NOT use carburetor cleaner!

You will need to go to a Ford dealer and buy their throttle body cleaner and lubricant (one product). I don't have a part number, but the parts guy can help you.

You just spray it in and it loosens the buildup. It foams, so hold the throttle open, (engine off) and spray inside. Saturate all areas of the throttle body, but no more. Reassemble, start and run at high idle to clear out the excess. It would be a good idea to check the instructions.
You do not want an EXCESSIVE amount going into the intake!

This stuff works very well in lubricating and cleaning IAC motors as well.

It will be hard to start, but it will start.

get some carb cleaner and clean it it would be best to leave the air intake off for a few moments to let the fumes clear out.

The black "buildup" in the TB is actually put there for a couple reasons. It acts as a gasket for the throttle plate and as a noise reducer at part throttle. Kills the whistle. Cleaning it off may slightly change the idle characteristics, but it will not hurt anything.

Hi guys new here great site. The black sludge on the back side of the throttle body is from the egr valve. That puts a limited amounted of exhaust back into the intake. It will build up alittle more if the truck sits at idle alot but it's normal and dosen't hurt anything. I wouldn't clean it.
