Question Oil Question

ANYONE THAT OWNS A 4.2 V6, HOW MANY QUARTS OF OIL DOES YOUR CRANKCASE HOLD? I HAD TO PUT 7 IN MINE TO GET IT UP TO THE MARKER. BUT THE MANUAL SAYS IT HOLDS 6QTS. WHY IS THIS?

Did you give it about 30 seconds for the oil to drip down out of the crankcase into the pan? Is your dipstick original or could it have been replaced?

mine takes 6.2L so i think 7 quarts is fairly close... but i am not sure of the exact metric to imperial translation...

I LET IT SET 15 MINUTES WITH THE ENGINE FAIRLY WARM AND THEN I CHECKED IT. IT WAS RIGHT ON THE TOP MARK WITH 7 QTS.

Owners manuals say 6 quarts, others try to fill to the full mark. In my case, I always just put 6 quarts in. This brings it to over halfway between the min and max marks in the accpetable range. Good enough for me. It never budges from there, so I never worry about it. To get to the full mark, it took 6.5 quarts. After reading the owners manual it said to leave the oil alone if it was between the marks, and thats what I do. Besides, the oil I buy comes in a case of 6 quarts - that extra half a quart was always a PITA!
