I brought up the idea a few months ago and no one here seemed to think it was necessary but if you get one you need to let me know how it works

Yes, most engine wear occurs at start up, but it is not what you think. The pre-lubers and others would have you believe it is because the oil is no longer coating the metal srufaces, but that is not true. There is almost always an oil film on bearing surfaces, and it protects until more oil is pumped up.

The real probelm at start up is that in a cold engine, you get large amounts of corrosive products produced that do not burn off until the engine is warm. Chief amongst these are sulfuric acid and nitric acid. A pre-luber does not stop the formation of these corrosives.

I was looking for one for a buddy of mine that has a turbo. His truck sits at work all night with no way to plug it in. He just wants positive oil going to the turbo before it spools up....

At work we have a few natural gas combustion turbo compressors and the tech's actually were concerned with the turbo spindown. The shutdown cycle triggers the pre-lubers to maintain turbo oil pressure until they the turbos actually come to rest.
