Hey, each ride sounds different. My friend car ping sounds dif then my truck... It dif from the type sound materials, motor placement, cats on the exhaust, etc. But the f150 on mine, you must have the windows up and the radio off. Then nail it above 3500rpm in 2,3,4 or 5th. The "ping" is like ping-pong ***** bouncing down the exhaust manifold! I'v been in 5 or 6 truck, that the owner did not know he had the ping, but ya I heard it. Also drove 20 other f150 that did not ping. Hope yours don't.
Ford Service Sucks. 3yr and 5 dealers... not a thing done for it!

In most cases it sounds just like the name, "Ping." It's a high frequency sound thats of extremely short duration. Like the sound you get when you whack a heavy glass with a wooden stick. Sometimes, it sounds like you're shaking a glass of pebbles if it's really bad.

Like 351 said in his post above, you won't hear it if you got your windows open and the stereo blasting. The sound actually is coming from inside the cylinders, so it has to get through the block and cylinder heads.
