I think I fixed my rought idle
I have had the rough idle problem since buying my 2000. I have tried the wire move thing, and the neutralization thing, but nothing has worked yet. Today I had a flowmaster 40 system installed with new hangers etc., and I think the uneven vibration at idle is gone, or at the very least greatly reduced. I had thought it might be an exhaust system problem, and my performance exhaust place thought it might have been to. I am going to drive it for awhile and will report back. Someone else had suggested that the rough idle some of us are having may be from different causes or multiple causes. Wish me luck, as this was the last thing I could think to try. Also, the performance of the truck seems to have improved with the new exhaust system.

That's great!
I do believe the rough idle is caused by several different causes...wire bundle near the A/C canister, moisture leaking onto the plugs, imbalanced exhaust system or faulty computer. Let us know what you find out!!
So far..I have been lucky..no rough idle yet in my Y2K!

Ok, It is gone. I almost don't believe it but my rough idle is gone. And looking at the stock exhaust system I can see why it might have got binded up. The muffler looks like a water heater. The thing that made me think it might have been the exhaust was that in cold weather and before the engine got warm the rough idle was not as bad and sometimes absent. Then when it got warm it would start, suggesting that maybe the exhaust system once it started heating up would get in a bind and vibrate the truck. The other thing was that the engine idle sound did not seem to be correlated with the vibration and the dealer could not demonstrate any engine problems with their computers. My thinking is that what defeated them was the fact that it was a simple mechanical problem, and thus did not show up on their computer screens. Since they have all become completely dependent on their computers they couldn't find it. My next step is to try and get Ford to pay for my exhaust system. Oh, by the way the Flowmasters sound great, not to loud, but cool, and my performance has improved. The truck feels like it is breathing easier. Before it felt like it had emphysema.

I got the Flowmaster 1 into 2 with two inch pipes, stainless pencil tips, and he used new hangers. Also, instead of having the two pipes come out each side both of them came on the left together side by side. I thought it looked different and cool. Also, they said that by running it to the other side you increased the length of pipe and so decreased the flow to some extent. I have to say that the truck felt better all the way around after installing the new system. I would definately reccomend the upgrade.
