Post Warranty on Piston Slap Replacement Engine?

I have a 97'F150 with the 5.4L and have both the piston slap and the cracks in the doors (this post is just to address the piston slap)

My truck is still in warranty (until 4/9/2000) the dealer said he would replace the engine but not offer any extended warranty for the engine past the 4/9/2000 date. This response did not sit to well. I have been working with the dealer (Bill Pierre Ford in Lake City, WA) for 2 months on this problem and it took about a month to get them to agree to replace the engine now it appears they are trying to bully me around some more until the truck gets out of warranty. This is my first FORD truck and maybe my last!!

I already sent a letter to the regional Ford representative who denied an extended warranty request.

I have read many posts and some seem to say that Ford was offering a 12,000 mile warranty

Here are some questions.

1. Has anyone else recieved a warranty on the FQR engine? If so, provide some details I can use with my dealer.

2. Can you still purchase the Extended Warranty through Ford as long as the vehicle is still in warranty?

3. Who else should I contact and try to get some help from?

Thanks for all the great info

Try another dealer! The dealer you have sounds like a bunch of jerks. Dont make this your last Ford, just because of a dealer.

I have also heard the same thing...you do not get a 3/36,000 warranty on the new engine...I believe you get 12/12,000 (correct me if I am wrong anyone)...from the date of installation...despite what your dealer is saying.

It really sucks..and trust me..I am glad I have not had to go through this!

I agree...don't let one bad experience give you a bad opinion! These *ARE* great trucks..and better than most of the others!

Go directly to FORD, call everyone and anyone until you get satisfaction! You paid good money for your truck and deserve it! I'd hate to say the commotion I would cause if I were in your shoes!!!!!!!!!!

Best of luck and keep us posted!

Cool

You can purchase an extended warranty on your truck if it is still under the original factory warning. My expedition has 59000 miles. I am buying an extended warranty for $495.00 It will cover my engine and Transmission until 75000 miles. There are other warranties that are available as well. He should not have given you any SH#$ for getting this motor replaced.

I only hope that yours goes smoother than mine. It has been 7 days so far and I keep hearing that it will be done tomorrow. On point though, although that it is a new motor, it is still built under the 1997 specs. This sucks because the 2000 year has 265 HP I think. I am going to check further on this though.

Good luck.

My dealer said no warranty(unless you have fact war left) They don't give you any extra war. on other things they fix so the engine is the same way. I bought an extended war. anyway.

I have an interesting situation too. I had the engine replaced at 49K. I already have a 4/5 year 75K (can't remember exactly) warranty. The FQR came with a 12/12K warranty. SO, if the warranty on the FQR is up before my 75K extended warranty. Does that mean I'm not covered! BULL SH*T!!!!
I payed for a 4/5 year 75K extended warranty and NO WHERE does it say ANYTHING about the warranty void on the engine parts if the engine is replaced by Ford!!!!!!!

YES YOU HAVE UNTIL YOUR PURCHASE DATE TO PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY! Shop around, they can vary in price!

I called Ford Customer Service and was told that the FQR engines should come with a 1yr/12,000 mile warranty.

She called the dealer and informed them and the service manager was supposed to call me back, he never did. I even left him 2 messages of my own and he did not return those phone calls.

I then sent a certified letter to the dealership stating the fact that the motor should have a warranty. Later that day, they did call and confirm and said the the motor would be ordered.

I also sent a letter the the General Manager related to the poor customer service being displayed by his service department, I have not yet recieved a response.

I am not very happy with the dealership, but I don't want to **** off the people who are going to be making the repairs, so I have been trying to be polite and courteous, but it sure is hard!

Is there a way to tell if the FQR motor has the necessary changes to eliminate the piston slap? Part no., build no. etc.?

What other things should I look for to make sure the service department is doing the installation properly?

As for the Extended Warranty??

I called about 6 Ford Dealerships, all are selling either the Ford 6ry/60,000 ($1375) or a National 7yr/75,000 ($1600)

I looked on line at Warranty Gold and it was less expensive and seemed to have more features but when I called a few Ford Dealers they said they would only honor the Ford or the National extended warranties

has anyone else run into this?

I've always been told any repair at the Ford dealer is backed by 12months/12,000 miles, regardless of factory warranty.

SWilson- I have lots of family in Whitesboro, Sherman, Dennison, Denton area.

That's a load of crap. The dealer I bought my '98 from sold me an extended warrenty from Toyota and said they, or any Ford dealer would honor it. They even said it was more comprehensive and less expensive than the Ford warrenty. Your dealer is full of it.

Any non-wear type part that ford sells is covered by a 12/12 warranty. If you have a reman. engine installed in your truck at 30000 miles and at 36000 miles the engine goes bad it would be covered under the 12/12 warranty. If the engine was replaced at 6000 miles and the engine goes bad at 35000 miles it would be covered under your 3/36. When shopping for aftermarket warranties read carefully between the lines. Some warranty companies make it very difficult for delaers to deal with them and not all parts are covered. For instance one warranty company covers the oil pan as a failure. How often does an oil pan just get a hole in it. But if you hit something and make the hole sorry not covered.
