Its been said the Air Force One gives the most, but then again it also cost the most too! Airaid and K&N are about the same. I went with the MAC intake. It looks like the Air Force One but costs $100 dollars less! All the intakes are basically the same (except for the the Volant) so if one might give 2-3 hp but cost $50-100 more is it worth it? Its up to what you want to spend and how you want the FIPK to look like under the hood.

More specific question

For the Airaid folks out there:
Does the Airaid or AirForce extend all the way to the wheelwell or does it stop short like the K&N? If it extends to the wall, is the cone of the filter closed (capped) or open?

Along the same vein, are all of the FIPK filters for our 5.4L engines closed off?

Cool 4RDPWR-

Just an idea, but if you're in Cali, you may want one that carries a 50 State CARB certification. This would narrow the search down substantially; if you care about these inspection/emission things.

The Airforce 1 is the only FIPK I am aware of that has an open ended cone filter that fits flush up against the plastic tube from the fender wall. While this insures at least SOME of the air being sucked in is cold outside air, I would have to guess that it is only 10% or so of total air intake with the rest coming from inside the engine compartment. On cold to warm days, the AF1 is awesome. It also adds a deep resonating performance sound under the hood as you no longer have a silencer tube. On extremely hot days, like Houston has, I would probably look to another solution such as volant with the cold air box or modify your stock unit. I am going to sell my 4 month old AF1 and try a volant here in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for the reply, Ken.
This has probably been covered, but I couldn't find it:
For those w/ the FIPK, what was the consensus on using duct work (dryer hose, etc) to get cold air to the FIPK? Anyone successful getting a hose thru that skinny fender space, etc?
