Talking Throttle reponse

Question for all of you- When you stomp on the gas pedal, do you get immediate throttle reponse, or does your engine exhibit a split second of hesitation before winding up? I just noticed this hesitation last night when I was sitting at a red light and was playing around with the throttle.

Sound that I hear during the split second of hesitation is like a 4 barrel sucking air when the throttle plates are snapped wide open....

This is a hard one to answer, because it's about "time", and how much is a bit. If you put it in Neutral or Park, you can bang the pedal to WOT and back without the engine picking up many rev's, if you're quick enough!

Question

WJT, The hesitation sounds similar to the problem that I had with my 4.2L. What was causing my truck to hesitate is that the CPS (Cam Position Sensor) had been mounted 180 degrees out from what it should have been. The CPS plays a part in controlling the injector timing. Don't know if this helps you, but it might be something to check on.

Question

I realize that the limited slip doesn't help. The rear axle has to allow for the slippage and send torque to the other side. With my old truck, It was nothing for it to atleast chirp the tires. Grant it I had a 400M, but I only had 3.54LS with 33" tires. I now have 3.73LS with 33" tires, but not even a chirp! The part I don't understand is if these motors are suppose to have so much torque available at the lower end, then why won't they atleast be able to break traction better? From a dead stop my truck seems alittle doggy, like my dad's Powerstroke, but once it gets going- lookout!!

funkster,
Don't panic about not being able to loose the tires. Those tires are pretty sticky, not to mention the fact that you have a lot more weight on the back than before. Fords aren't light.
My head still snaps back when I punch the accelerator, even though there is little complaint from the tires.

I'd like to point out a flipside of this topic, that my 4.2 hesitates at DEceleration. it matters most when shifting, i had to develop a slow clutch pedal attack after letting up the gas, or the engine was revving too high. the slow-mo makes close situations even closer. it's even more noticeable when i'd get into my wrangler & letting up the gas early caused me to nose-dive. doink...
