? for '98 4.6 owners, pinging related
? for '98 4.6 owners, pinging related
I have the FOU1 ECU code and despite running injector cleaners through the system, cleaning the MAF and DPFE, replacing the spark plugs and wires, my engine still pings.
I'm willing to try to get my ECU flashed to a different code to see if that stops the pinging. I just need to know what other codes Ford used during '98 for an automatic 4.6.
I appreciate the help.

I have no idea what other codes were available that year - but thought I might recommend you just get a chip from Mike instead - by the time you go to the dealership to get them to put a different program in your truck i'm sure you'd end up spending more than just buying a chip from Mike and installing it yourself. I talked to Mike and he told me he could design a chip to compensate for the problem with 87 or 93 octane, so higher gas prices shouldn't be a problem. If your going to change chips, you'd minue well get the shifting impovements and cancel the cutoff at 100. I'm definately planning on trying this aswell, just thought I'd try everything else first so I wouldnt be masking the problem.
most dealers will charge you nothing to reflash the computer. they did it to mine and it did nothing to eliminate the pinging.
sorry i can't tell you anything more encouraging. let me know if you go w/ the chip and if it helps.
mine is a 98' 4.6 too.

SRB 150,
I had pinging in my 98 4.6 (same code) after I put in my superchip. Sent it back to Mike, he reprogramed it and no more pinging since. You might want to invest in a superchip it will greatly improve your performance and Mike can fix your pinging problem.

I've got a 98 FOU1, no ping yet. Well twice it had trouble, once was with a Hypertech chip, and the other was with the Superchip on 89 octane. I had no choice at the time, high altitude fuel and had to drive back to the low country.
Even before the chips I ran 92 and above though. I have a stumble now while shifting into 2nd, and it's going to the dealer for that one. If you give it gas while it's shifting, it chokes and acts like it's being held back somehow.I love the FOU1 code other than that
