HELP Moisture in Crankcase
Ive got a 99 F150 5.4 SC with a 3.73 A/OD. All stock. I have used Durablend from the beginning and first change at 500 miles --Every 3k thereafter (now at 11500). After each of the last two changes, I have a pool under the front of the motor area (looks like below the front of the pan) but no leaks are apparent.
The dude at Indy Lube showed me the Oil cap and said it was loaded with White foam and moisture and told me that He was seeing moisture in the crankcases in many fords lately. I have also been reading the oil leak threads and, as a Ford guy who traded in a 97 Silverado I am VERY CONCERNED. What do you think, what would you do? I sure hope the head gasket isnt bad.
One final note, My aunt works for FORD and will ensure that the Fury in Hell will strike down upon thee who Screws up my truck at the service bay or screws with me at the service counter. I can only say that whatever the cost to Ford, my truck WILL be fixed right. I only wish I could give that little gift to any and all of you who have been really screwed with at a Ford service garage.
Incidentally, Chevrolet was first rate in their repairs in my experience. The ford is a better truck, but I cant say anything negative about them standing behind, and fixing their product.
Thanks for all info or similar experiences

Thanks folks, I dropped by the Local Precision Tune to have them check it out and they say its fine and quite normal. WHEW! I guess its nice to have a problem that isnt serious for once.
My wife drives this truck and does take it short distances usually. This time, I had let it run for quite awhile so I was suprised.
Otherwise, I am VERY happy with it so far. I really liked the Chev and I drive a 1 ton Toyota as a work truck (Im a general Contractor), but as good as they both are, The Ford is just far superior and civilized for a such a brute of a truck. Thanks again.

There is nothing wrong with your truck. The reason you see some white foam in the oil filler cap is because that is vapor from inside your engine which is caused by the cold weather and your engine not being operated long enough for the water to evaporate through the PCV valve. If you were to take a long trip the chances are that the vapor would evaporate and no longer be there. If you change the oil that would only help a little because the water vapor drops are througout the engine and the oil change would not remove what's in the top of the engine. The vapor is there because it's a by-product of combustion but mostly have you ever taken a very cold piece of metal into a warm room and noticed the water that forms all over the metal----this is what happens when your engine is warmed up and shut off in cold temperature the water vapor in the air inside your engine condenses on the internal engine parts and makes water this water then mixes with oil and causes the white foam that you are seeing. This almost never occures in warm weather. Years ago in the winter when non-detergent oil was used you could remove the oil drain plug there would be some water in the oil pan also.

I agree depending on your answers to these question:
What are your driving habits?
Are they short quick trips less than 15 miles?
Are you missing any coolant?
Is you oil level rising between changes?
