Cool Banks Powerpack for V-10's

Well I talked to George Medows at Banks Engineering today, and they have completed the work on the 2000 V-10 Powerpack kits. He stated that they only have an issue with the 6-spd manual trans, but since I have an Auto I didn't ask what the issue was.
He stated that the Engineers told him that they are still getting a 50 HP and 65 ft.lb. increase at the rear wheels on the 2000's just as they did on the 1999's. He didn't have any Dyno charts or actual rear wheel numbers (makes me wonder).

I'm waiting on DIS to give me a price on the Kit (#49130).

Any one here with a Banks Powerpack on a V-10? If so what are your thoughts and comments?

wawii,

I've been waiting over a year for some official paperwork from Banks. They just don't seem interested in providing it. I have talked to them personally and such but every time I get any info in the mail it's for the PSD! I finaly had enough and sent Banks an e-mail stating firmly that I don't have a PSD and not to send any more info unless it's for the V10. There was a gentleman on ford-trucks.com that installed the kit. He was happy with it. At $1500, it is very expensive in my opinion. Also, the V10 doesn't come with the 6sp, only 5sp.

This is what DIS sent me on the 7th of July, 1999:

Thanks for the inquiry into our product lines...

Red face

I sent DIS an e-mail looking for their price and delivery on the 2000 Kit and received a call today from them.

A very helpful lady, Inez called me and said that the part number George had given be was for the 1999's not the 2000's. They are still 2-3 months away on completing the 2000 kit.

They are having to develop a new "Y" pipe and Left Header for the 2000 V-10's.

The Stock 1999 Rear Wheel numbers that Banks is reporting are: 194.2 HP @ 4400 RPM and 302.3 ft.lbs. @ 2400 RPM.

My Stock 2000 Rear Wheel numbers are: ~245 HP and 335 ft.lbs. Looks like Ford made some nice rear wheel improvements or Banks is under reporting the 1999's. I'm looking forward to the 2000 Kit numbers to see where Banks lands.

Sorry to get anyone’s hopes up, but it looks like we will have to wait a few more months for the 2000 V-10 kit.

The 99 v10 has 194hp stock.

George Medows from Banks called again on 2-2-2000 with the real "2000" V-10 Kit number and info:

Kit #: 49131
Gain of: 50 HP and 65 ft.lbs. at the rear wheels and 8% increase in fuel economy!
List Price: $1,595

I called Inez at DIS and she called back this morning.
The kit number is good and she was getting me the rest of the spec's.

It's amazing that they called back and didn't want to sell you something for a PSD. That works out to $31.90 per horse. Not cheap. DIS should be able to beat that price by $150 or so. You thinkin about buying the kit Will?

Cool

V10 man,

Yep, but I'm going to visit a local Engineering/Racing shop (Watson Engineering) who have built some "special" v-10 trucks for Ford to see what a custom system might cost me. I looked at the Borla ($563 Headers & $520 for Cat-Back for $1,093 not including any intake tricks) but don't have any performance info on there system(s).

fast46triton,

I'm also looking at a SuperChip, but first to be sure I get the best freedom from the V-10 (and sound) I'm looking at removing the "resistance" on the intake and exaust side. Not cheap, but I bought the $4,000 cheaper V-10 over the PSD knowing I'd have a little money to tweek the V-10 to the performance I'd like.

At some point I may go all the way and install a SuperCharger, but Eaton dosn't make one for the V-10 yet.

It just kill's me that a stock Lightning can beat my beautiful V-10 super Duty.

Will,

Where did you get your prices from? That is a heck of a lot cheaper than the Banks kit. No performance numbers huh? Was that from Borla themselves or a dealer? I'd imagine that the Lightning weighs about a ton less than our trucks. That just might make them a lil quicker....LOL

V10 Man,

I got the prices from the Summit WEB site. Yea, no performanc enumbers, but the kit is $344.49 cheaper than the Banks, but you still will need to do some intake work that the Borla kit includes.

Yea, the weight difference is an issue, so as I get closer to the desired levels I'll have to make a trip to the track and give one a run.

Thanks,
Will

Will,

I finally got a reply from my e-mail to Borla. All they said was to contact Comp Design in Salt Lake City. I did and got a price for the headers only of $551.99 plus about $12 shipping. They had no performance data. I then called some advertisers in Truckin mag. Truck Performance Center quoted me a price of $569.00 plus $15 shipping. They did say that the kit should boost HP by 40 and TQ by 50-60.
He also said a gain of 3mpg. I questioned him on his 3mpg comment. He said that the Ford likes to breathe and seemed confident in his statement. I called RV Performance. They gave me a price of $600. They wanted to take my order right then. I told them I was still calling around. They wanted to know what my lowest price was. I told them $551.99. He seemed rather surprised and told me to hold on while he checked with his manager. The manager(Mark) got on the phone and quoted me a price of $545.00 and $10 shipping. He said he'd beat anybody's price and to call Truck Performance Center back, get there lowest price and call him back. It seams that if you play them against each other you can get a better price. I love free enterprise! I'd imagine you can get the price a little lower. I then called Borla to try and get performance numbers. The guy I got ahold of said that it should be 8-10%. The don't give out dyno numbers to avoid warranty claims.(I guess that means if they say 40 and we test it and it has 35 they don't want any returns) Anyways, I thought I'd share the news. Now to start working on the wife....

Another thing.. My engine is sheduled to be replaced. Already on a waiting list. Question is, would you wait until after the change or go for it anyway? I would be able to prove to Ford that I installed them after it was diagnosed with a problem. Thanks guys.
