Yeah, Im interested in the results also. I think a 99' Lightning owner did a dyno test with a K&N Airfilter. Not sure though.

Question

Got a general question:

Do manual transmissions give more rear-wheel horsepower than automatics?

I dont think they do. Well, Fords manual is WEAK in the f150, so I might say that the auto is stronger there.

Thumbs up

I just got home from a dyno test and mine is as follows.

Rear wheel horsepower is 235 hp. at 2,530 rpm's
I was told that there is a 20% loss through the drivetrain so the flywheel would be app.282 hp. I don't know if that is 100% true or not.

torque at the rear wheel is 700 nm / 182 ft. lbs. at flywheel 286.4 ft. lbs. at 2,660 rpm's

My truck feels like a different truck. My 0-60 is 7.37 now. We had to put in a flip chip and we went back four times after the dyno to fine tune the truck so I don't have a final dyno test, we ran out of time.

Yes, manual transmissions have less power loss than an automatic, hence will put more power to the rear wheels. Generally speaking, a manual transmission has a 17% power loss through the drivetrain and an automatic is about 20% (AODE style trans). C6 automatics can have power loss figures upwards of 25%.

XanMan,

WOW! Sounds lke you got about $10,000 worth of mods??

Why the heck didn't you buy a F150 with the 5.4???????

Sounds like some people are getting 0-60 as fast with only a cheap intake mod and a Superchip.......

Heck, I think one guy has a Navigator that can hang with you!

Just curious why someone who is OBVIOUSLY into HP and mods didn't start out with the bigger engine??

Hotrod,

But if the manual is really weak, wouldnt it put less to the ground than a STRONG auto?

The manuals are "weak" meaning they can not handle a lot of power for long durations. It does not mean that they are inefficient at putting power to the ground.
