Customer Satisfaction Program 01B83/Radiator Replacement

Howdy All,

Good News about the radiator issue. For those that had purchased the trailer tow package (Heavy Duty Electrical/Cooling.) If you didn't order the Trailer Tow Package (Heavy Duty Electrical/Cooling) this does not relate to you.

And were concerned like me that the wrong radiator was installed at the factory. Turns out that the single core 1.02" Radiator does indeed meet Ford's Super Cooling Spec's and was the right one. Unfortunately information related to the radiator upgrade was not properly changed. Ford wants to satisfy its customers that were affected by offering three options:

Option 1 100 check

Option 2 500 Owner Loyalty Certificate

Option 3 Radiator Replacement

Certain 2000-2001 F-150 equipped with the Heavy Duty Electrical/Cooling Group purchased or leased prior to May 5, 2001 will have three options to choose from. You should receive a letter from Ford. You could probably get a copy from your dealer. Also if you purchased the radiator yourself it looks like they will reimburse you.

Customer Satisfaction Program 01B83

I edited the previous post so it now makes sense - I was so excited for U all that I could barely form syllables.

Question

Does this include trucks with the towing package and if so, how do I find out if my truck is affected?

What do we have to do to get a letter, I don't want the 100 bucks or 500 off my next vehicle purchase but I do want a big radiator since this is my primary tow vehicle.

I am the proud owner of a 2001 SuperCrew. It has the off-road package and towing package and it had the 1.02 radiator. I was fortunate enough to have my radiator replaced by the dealer with the two row radiator. I did not have any difficulty with the dealer because I could prove my point based on the information received from this forum. Thank you all for the info.

I still do not understand why a 2WD expedition with tow package have the 1.42'' radiator and a supercrew 4X4 off road with 5.4L have the 1.02'' radiator. I'm not sure but I think the truck is even heavier than the expy. I don believe the 1.02'' is even capable of keeping a constant temp under normal driving like around town with no towing. My truck on summer it idles at 1100 RPM's and I think that's a sign of it runnning hot but the temp gauge does not move so no body could tell. Anyway that's just my thinking and I would take the radiator because I believe my 5.4L needs it.

Thanks for the info.

Why the May 5 cutoff? I purchased my 2001 in late June and would expect the same offer.

Probably because on May 4, 2001 Ford said in the Dealer News Bulletin DNB-0118

F-150 (2001)-Heavy Duty Electrical/cooling group (531) revision

The Super Engine Cooling(Radiator Upgrade) is not included in the Heavy Duty Electrical Cooling Group(531). Dealers are asked to revise the Group Misc. Options Page of the order guide to remove the Super Engine Cooling(Radiator Upgrade) from the package content.

I'm sure that Ford feels that their hind ends are covered for any trucks sold after that announcement.

Angry

Hell 01Sport, I have a question for you, my trailer towing group is listed as 535 not 531. I just bought my 01 150 last month and had it shipped in so that I could get the exact options I wanted. The tow pkg. was one of my must have options thinking I was getting extra cooling for both the rad and tranny. Am i now not able to take recourse because Ford sent out a bulletin and how does my rad differ from the standard rad as their literature states I get super cooling. Thanks for your input. Confused in Canada

The class III towing group originally read like this.

Class III Trailer Towing Group (535)
7-Pin trailer wiring harness
Class III frame mounted hitch reciever
Heavy duty electrical/cooling package (531)
Heavy duty shock absorbers

This led you to look at group 531

Heavy duty electrical/cooling group (531)
Heavy duty 72-amp hr battery
Super engine cooling (radiator upgrade)
Auxiliary transmission oil cooler (w/44E auto trans only); upgraded auxiliary trans. cooler on 5.4L engines w/44U auto trans.

Fords bulletin of May 4, 2001 removed the Super engine cooling from group 531 thus also removing it from the Class III towing group 535.

Is there any way I can find out if this was included on my sticker other than going to my dealer and getting a new sticker printed up? Dealer never gave me my sticker

Thumbs up

Thanks 01 Sport now I know what the #'s refer to, I'll see my dealer and ask what he can do about it but I'm doubtful if the bulletin came out in May. Oh well I got 3 years of warranty left and I'm planning a 3 week trip on the road with a 21' 5'ver next summer so if she heats up we'll get it fixed then. Keep the info coming all.

MisterP,

All my window sticker showed was "Trailer towing group, class III". The details that I posted came from Ford's promotional material.

If you are wondering if the towing package was installed on your truck from the factory I know of no way except for checking the equipment. If your truck has the factory hitch, 7 pin wiring harness, big battery and the upgraded tranny cooler then I would say it came that way from the factory.

I would think that your dealer should be able to print up the details for your truck from the VIN.

My skinny radiator was replaced! Thanks to all here at F150online. Even had my tires replaced as I did not care for the quality f the General's it came with. Rich Ford does care about their customers..... I guess its about time to send in my customer survey.
