Question Weird Noises...

You guys might remember I posted last summer about a noise coming from my engine. Whenever I get on the gas, it sounds like a muffled horn blowing. I can only surmise its something to do with the air intake.

This morning (after 10 degree temps) I was leaving my house and I heard a siren. It wasnt a cop, it was me. Whenever I got on the gas, I can hear a siren (like the old 60's police cars). Whaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!! (thats the sound not me crying).

Once the engine got warmed up the sound went away, but Id like it to go away for good. Anyone else have weird noises coming from their airintake? The only mod Ive done there is a K&N filter (not the kit).

Thanks!

I get this to it has been there sence i put my k&n air filter in and then woorse when I did the air box mod to it. I think that it is all of the cold air that is getting to the motor, and I don't think that it will hurt anything. I do notic more power when it makes the noise. Someone correct me if I am wrong. hope this helps Allan

You sure someone didn't sneak into your garage late one night and install a PowerAid in your truck! LOL!

I get a slight wistling noise in mine too, but only when it is cold.here in New England I don't think it will warm up soon, so I will just have to live with it until spring.

Paul,

Ill leave my hood open tonight and maybe someone will...

All,

OK, someone just nailed it in another post. Cant remember but its on Engines and they said that the sound is like someone blowing across the top of a coke bottle. Thats exactly what I get when its warm, but the noise this morning was a wailing noise.

Does anyone know anything about the 'silencer' thats attached to the airbox? I believe this is where my problem lies. Perhaps it needs tightening, loosening, etc?

Question

When I installed a K&N in my modified stock box, I didn't notice any change in sound. (Maybe a slight whistle sound at idle - the air getting sucked in.) It's been between 10 above and 0 degrees here for the past few days. Go figure......

I just bought a 2000 f150 5.4 sc. On the way home I heard a funny noise. I don't know if it is normal or not. Non of the description above really match what I hear. It happens around 750-1500 rpm if you hit the throttle just right and sounds like rubber rubbing the tire but it comes from the dash. Does anyone have this problem?

It was a little warmer here today, allmost 30 degrees. No noise today, seems to only make it below 15-20 degrees

I have had a like problem. I get a whine or whirr type sound upon starting the truck. The temp has been between -5 and 10 at night. I thought the sound was from the tranny because I got the same noise initially while driving. The service manager who has been personally overseeing the warranty repairs on my truck started it on one of these cold mornings. He heard the none driving whine and said it was from the pulleys (something about bad bushing on a batch of them) and he ordered me a new set to be replaced at the same time they replace my driverside door for a chronic crack. I'll let everyone know if this fixes my cold weather noises.

P.S. Today the temp was above 20 degrees all night and no noise this morning. I have had this truck for 2-1/2 yrs through colder weather than we have had recently so I don't know the reason for the new noises.

I think some of it has to do with age (parts expanding and contracting from heat). Mine is still running strong. Our weather hasnt dropped back down to 10 and I havent heard the 'siren' noise again. The 'beep' which sounds like someone blowing on a coke bottle has disappeared too, although that usually rears its head in warmer temps.

About that air silencer, i know that most mustang guys remove theirs, they claim it makes more power and a more throaty noise under the hood. I would have to say that since all of the complaints are coming from folks with the filtercharger that may be the problem.
