Greetings, Folks. I am new to the forums - first post. Eager to gather as much info as I can as I am having to replace a seized engine unfortunately. I have already read some useful posts, so I want to thank everyone in advance for all of the advice and input.

So, my 2001 Ford F-150 XLT 4.6L V8 4X4 has the 1G842AA "Romeo" with the rectangular intake ports. The truck had about 299k on the clock when she finally left me stranded - seized engine.

I have elected to search for a salvaged motor, but I am having a hard time finding the exact 1G842AA motor. I have found the "Romeo," 0G842AA with round intake ports, but I am not certain that it is an easy substitute.

Might anyone know if these two engines are interchangeable given they only differ in the shape of the intake ports?

I am also curious to know if any other Ford engines (from other generations of F-150 or another Ford vehicle altogether) might be a direct fit that will operate efficiently without major modifications?

I want to thank you all in advance for your past posts as well as any input that you may have on my situation.

You have a PI engine. 2001 was the year they went to PI with the 4.6, yours is later production. I would not swap a non-PI engine in, round ports are non-PI. You can swap a 2002 or 2003 4.6 Romeo out of a F150 or Expedition, or a 2001 PI..

 

Thanks so much for that information, GLC! I never know about the "PI" distinction, so this is priceless knowledge that you have shared. It is nice to know that theoretically I should be able to get a newer engine as a replacement. I know that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be better per se, but I would like to think that perhaps the mileage may be lower and/or the later PIs may a little more abundant.
