Heater Core Issue
Heater Core Issue
I have a 2010 F-150 4.6 XLT and about two years ago my heater core started leaking like crazy, so I bypassed it and just decided that if it got cold, I'd wear a jacket (I live in Florida). Its still not that bad, but my issue is that my windows fog like crazy and it takes forever to get them to clear up with just the A/C if they clear up at all. I bought the heater core and all the components thinking it would be a quick fix like on my old F150, but boy was I wrong. As most of us know already the entire dash has to come out, and that involves a whole lot of stuff that can go horribly wrong.
Anyways to the point. I searched all over the place looking for an answer and couldn't locate one, until one day I started thinking. What if I just mounted it somewhere else? Has anyone tried this? Just relocating it to a new spot through the firewall and hooking everything back up. I am not wanting to spend my weekend doing my heater core with dash removal if I can just relocate it. Any thoughts on this or if someone has done it (successfully or unsuccessfully) I'd really appreciate your advice. If someone says it can be done, I'll give it a wing and post pictures and let everyone know how it works.
Thanks in advance!
Alex

Yeah, it's buried in there.
I would get it fixed right.
It's really not that hard, it's just very time consuming and tedious. What speeds it up is having an extra set of gentle hands.
Don't rush or else you'll be loosing clips and breaking tabs which then results in creaking and rattling noises.
Also, plan it out. You'll be working around airbags and I recommend disconnecting the battery minimally an hour before working on anything and avoid static electricity when working around them.
Knock on wood, I've never had one go off on me in my years of working around them, but I know of folks who have. Mostly carelessness.

so you want to remove the heater core from the hvac system rendering the no heat as the only option…
I’m so confused as to why fixing the truck properly isn’t an option
laziness mostly, but also the inability to want to spend one of my only days off entirely on my truck. Plus, doesn’t bypassing it remove it from the hvac system as well? I did that and my a/c still works amazingly.
I’m also wanting to move it in the event it’s ever an issue again. I would hate to have to do it all over again. So why not put it somewhere accessible?
