Triton/modular engine interchangeablity
Triton/modular engine interchangeablity
I don't know if this question has ever been answered, but I can't find it anywhere. What I wanted to know is, since the 2010 Raptor is available with either the 5.4L or the 6.2L, and the are mated to the same exact 6A transmission, does that mean and Ford truck or SUV with a 5.4L mated to the same 6A transmission could be swapped out for the 6.2L, with minimal issues? The reason I ask is this. I'm looking to get a 2011-2014 Expedition with the same setup, but from what I'm finding out, the 5.4L struggles when it's loaded down with passengers, cargo, and a decent sized camper trailer. If by some chance the 6.2L is not an option, are there other alternatives? I want to stay away from turbo's and superchargers, since I'm looking to keep this truck for a lot of years and many miles. If you think rebuilding the current 5.4L is my best option, I'll take suggestions for internal parts upgrades as well as intake/exhaust and tuner.
any modular engine *could* swap in there. (4.6) (5.0 Coyote) (5.4) (5.2 Vodoo) (6.2) or even (6.8 V10) would mate to the transmission
biggest distinction from the 6.2 versus everything else, would be the 16 spark plug design
next biggest distinction would be 6.2 came with hydraulic power steering pump compared to everything else modern getting EPAS
anything is possible with enough time, patience, and money. I successfully converted my 2003 into complete 2015 drivetrain swap and EPAS conversion as well (link in signature)
