My 06 F-250 5.4lTritan engine is done and needs rebuilt. Iamdisabled and have no money, but Ido have a 98 Econoline Cargo Van with 4.6 Tritan and a broken rear axle. Can I put this engine in my F-250 and mount it to its current 4x4 tranny and drive train (which I was told I could), and what other things should I beaware of or will need to do to make this work. Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated.

 

You can do it but it's going to have a LOT less power. There are a lot of differences between a non-PI 4.6 and a 3 valve 5.4, so you will need to do quite a bit of rewiring and possibly replace the computer. You may be able to custom tune the existing computer. Bottom line - mechanically it's a fairly easy swap but electrically it may become a nightmare.

Ok, I took out the engine from the van, and the entire wiring harnesss without cutting the first wire. I disabled the security first. I have installed the complete wiring harness into my F-250 right alongside of its harness. What a web of wires too! I have the flywheel on the 4.6 and am ready to go in with it. My truck will believe it is the eco online except for the transmission. If I don’t ever put it in 4 wheel drive, will it run and drive? Please let me know if I should do anything else before I start the truck.

 

Oh, and so far everything is attaching perfectly.

 

Well the 98 econoline is nothing but a shell, it’s entire brain and nervous system is installed along side of my 06 Super Duties guys. Having a situation gettin tranny to marry up to engine, probably user error. Then in we will go with it. I have PATS system installed with its pcm as well. My 5.4 intake and decorative parts are going on it to. Can anyone tell me where I can get a Ford 4x4 tranny code for free, or do I have to strip that from the big trucks brain?

The 4.6 computer CANNOT control the 4R100 in the F250. It's set up for a 4R70W.

 

So I need the tune or software upgrade for the bigger transmission. Thank you. Can anyone tell me where I can get the tune code for the bigger transmission?
I am a developer of software. I was programming my own software while Bill Gates was still in a garage coming up with the personal computer. The Power Control Module or PCM is a simpler computer than your cell phone. The mechanical crap is where I struggle, telling that computer how to intake fuel and air, what percentage of throttle or the exact rpm or percent of spark advance is the easy part for me. I can hook my computer to any vehicle and make it do what I want all I need is to know the max and min value, which will be a lot different for the bigger tranny. Somewhere there is a downloadable code for this, I just need it, if someone can tell me where I can get it, otherwise I will hook to my old pcm and use its values, which may not be factory set.
