Can anyone please tell me if it's best to use RTV gasket maker or the permatex form 1 gasket sealant (part no. 1A) on my valve cover gaskets? In the book it says to use RTV gasket sealer, I however have either RTV gasket maker or the permatex gasket sealant but it doesn't specify if it's RTV or not so I'm assuming that it is not.

 

My non-professional opinion of RTV for gaskets is very low. I would use a gasket with sealer of any brand. Way back when, I used shellac on my gaskets sometimes just to keep them in place during installation.
