Braking System

Ran into some trouble with braking system on my 07 F150, 5.4L 3V, approx. 220,000 miles

About a week ago the brake light came on and wouldn’t turn off. The the ABS light followed. Noticed some shaking while driving but nothing crazy. But today coming home from work, the shaking was a lot worse and I stalled out when braking and the screen read low oil pressure.

Ended up using the E-brake while lifting the lever to brake in order to nurse it back home. I’ll attempt to do the same thing tomorrow to get it to a shop.

I wanted to run it by y’all and see what you think about me fixing myself before getting gouged by a shop. Have y’all ran into this problem before? Thanks

Seems to me you have some brakes seizing. Your truck needs a good brake inspection. Part of the inspection is to check the ABS codes. Cheap code readers may not read ABS codes.

Update

Mechanic told me I would need PCM replacement for 1600 bucks to fix braking system. From what I’ve read this doesn’t sound likely to be the problem and honestly seems way to expensive.
Does this sound accurate to anyone?? Thanks

Personally, I would go out and get a bluetooth scanner, and use Forscan and read in the ABS code and see if there is anything else sitting on the PCM and go from there.

O'Reillys sells remanufactured PCM's for your truck in the $500 ballpark, depending on exact calibration. They can probably be found cheaper.

How much time did this mechanic spend diagnosing the problem? How much did he charge you?

150.00 that goes towards the repair cost if I choose to do it. Hey will order the part Tuesday if I pull the trigger on it. Why?

It’s hard to say how long it took. I dropped my truck off with other vehicles ahead of mine. I want to say about 2 hours if that. Probable less

Calling for a new computer is a major call. Just wondering how much troubleshooting he did before he decided it was the computer.
