5.4l 2v Camshaft Holding Tool Question

I'm working on taking my cylinder heads off this afternoon on my '01 5.4L 2V F150 KR. I ran into an issue. I have the 511545 camshaft holding tool and began to try and install it between lobes 2 and 3. When installing it slipped off the side of the cylinder head wall. I'm wondering if this is the correct camshaft holder for the 5.4l 2v. Or did I torque this thing too tight. How tight should I be torquing this thing? I only tried the driver side before I decided to consult with the forum.

I'm thinking about just using vice grips rather than spending another $50 on another tool. I'd like to get the heads to the machine shop by Monday. It would appear 511545 camshaft holding tool is meant for a different 5.4L engine than the one I have since the legs won't stay in position.

Not sure why people knock the vise grip method. It was a piece of cake.
