Engine replacement gone wrong!!!

Hello, long time listener first time caller. Heres my problem. I bought a 1996.5 F150 4.6 with a blown head gasket. Found an engine and transmission 4.6l and 4r70w on craigslist so cheap I had to get it. The combo came out of a towncar unknown year, installed with truck intake/ exhaust manifolds but noticed the car engine had no port for the knock sensor!! So i left it plugged into the truck but hanging on top of the engine. when I went to start it the engine would start, rev up and die, sounded like timing was off by just too much to not be able to keep running, but idk if it was the knock sensor I left hanging or do the cars have a different timing adjustment??? Please help! I plan on sticking around this forum for a while, came across alot of good information looking up this problem but nobody as ignorant as me to wind up in this situation. ANY advice is MUCH appreciated thank you!!

1996.5? I assume you mean an early 1997? What engine and transmission did it have, a 4.6 and 4R70W? Sure would be nice to know the year of the Town Car, assuming it was also a 4.6 with 4R70W?
