Undetermined knocking.

The 5.4 Triton engine in my pickup mysteriously ran out of oil one day but even when I caught it early enough to prevent damage a knocking sound appeared. This caused concern but as I had too much to do I couldn’t put the truck on ice till a mechanic could look at it. Then one day while while my father was driving it, an oil pressure issue caused him to pull over, before long what he describe as a “ping pong, jingle, jingle” noise came from the engine and the ECM shut the engine off and prevented it from starting. Fast forward a week I can still start and it runs but the engine still knocks but it’s coming higher up on the engine than I assume a rod bearing would come from. I know sometimes the valve lifters these early 2000 tritons are prone to failure could it be something related to that. This engine has also had issues with the timing chain chafing the chain cover and clogging the pump.

any ideas at this point would be appreciated,

Additional information

This is a 1999 F150 XLT 2x4
Engine as stated is a 5.4 Liter Triton SOHC non-turbocharged.

The previous owner while a mechanic also tried making this an SVT and while he probably maintained it well, the exhaust pipes from the back of the cab back has been replaced with a corvette exhaust and is heavily damaged, and I suspect that because the nature of how It was when I got it, the engine has probably been tortured more than once.

Remove the valve covers and see what you can see. Remove the oil filter and look for metal particles. If there are metal particles you need an engine. I suspect you should be looking for another engine or another truck as the case may be.
