Why don't you just lift the bed?

Some folks don't have access to a hoist/rigging or even other people at times.

So in his case, likely the only way is to cut a hole in the bed.

If done correctly, it's actually a nice addition.

It's like when I used to have my staxx. The holes are excellent for cleaning the bed, as the water and dirt doesn't accumulate. I also didn't have any bed rust before I had a 3M lining installed. It would be a nice addition on new trucks to have drain plugs.

My new truck, that is one of the first things I am doing, is hole sawing minimally two 2" holes on each rear corner of the bed.

Yes you can. Might want to lay something over the tank to deflect the sparks just to be safe. I would use a 41/2" grinder with a cut off disc, not a torch.
