Engine information

Hello all new member here, recently purchased an 09 f150 for a work truck. Has the 5.4 v8 in it and is over 300k on the odometer. Runs great power is good no leaks or smoke. Trans is good also. May have been replaced previously I do not know. I’m planning to build a spare engine/transmission combo for it to have on standby. Question I have is can a 1998 5.4 be built as a replacement? I have a complete truck with a running 5.4 in it that is a 98 model. Can I use that engine as the base for my build or are there too many differences between the year models?

Why do you say that? Can’t be that much block difference, can there? I was thinking of forging the lower end and adding a roots/whipple style supercharger so it’s gonna be an expensive build anyway. Just want to know if the older block is compatible to use as a base.

Mechanically, it will work. Electronically, not even close. Same with the transmissions.
