500rwhp 1998 5.4L?
500rwhp 1998 5.4L?
Hi guys,
So I want to preface this by saying I am new to engine building and have very little experience, but am here to learn so please bear with me. I recently came into possession of a 1998 Windsor Block 5.4L SOHC V8 and I was thinking that it would be a fun engine to strip down and rebuild with the goal of hitting 500hp. I've done a lot of reading on the Modular v8 and I've learned a lot, but there's still a lot that I'm unclear on.
First, are most 5.4L heads interchangeable? I've heard a lot of people suggesting swapping to PI DOHC heads, which would include swapping intake, timing cover and gears, ect. but I havent seen any info on what would even bolt up to my block. Would I even see a performance increase swapping to a DOHC head? If so which are best? I found a post refrencing the DOHC heads from the 2003 modulars saying they had the best flow, would these heads even bolt to my block from 5 years prior?
A friend brought up swapping the heads and supercharger from a lightning or Harley Davidson f150, would either of these bolt on to my block? I understand I would have to swap out lots of little stuff along with the obvious, heads, intake, belts, timing, ect., but I'm more interested if a swap like this can even be done, or if the block is too different.
What are some other modifactions I can do to this engine to squeeze out some more power, or to help keep things somewhat reliable?
Also, I'd prefer to not "just buy a complete 4v engine" as that kindof defeats the purpose of a project, right?
Thanks for your time guys. Apologies if I am posting this in the wrong forums, this is my first time using this site

If you want to learn, get the parts to build the modified Lightening engine and DIY it. You know, short block, cams, pistons, etc. This way you can make it yours, plus you know what's inside of it, so when it goes pop on the strip, you can fix it in your sleep.
